Default Jones lost on purpose -- he says!!

At a press conference this weekend at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis to hype Roy Jones vs Prince Amaju on July 29th, Jones suprised the media by showing up. Although Jones was 45 minutes late, he is famous for not showing up at all for press conferences. Roy Jones Jr made a startling revelation on why he lost the third fight against Antonio Tarver. Jones Jr blames his father for that loss, saying he made a conscience decision to loss. He made that choice in the fifth round of the fight. Jones says that is when he decided that he wasn't going to win the fight.

Jones Jr is quoted by Tim Smith of the New York Daily at the conference as saying: "If I had won the fight my father would have gotten all the glory and he didn't deserve it. If I had knocked out Tarver they would have said it was because of him. My father don't deserve this. Where were you the last 12 years? He's a sharp guy. Having him was more bad than good. He's a good boxing guy. He taught me. But he's not good for me.''"

in some degree...i feel jones on what his saying...but he should of taught about himself...not what glory his father would of gotten...the lost was in his record not in his father...but I knew it the father and son reunion for the third fight wasn't a good idea...

What a joke ! ya know, take your loss like a man, " I didn’t want my father to get glory" LOL he lose that fight cause he got caught with that straight left he didn't see and got the Fu$#ed knocked out. Glen Johnson really canvased his ass unconsious for 5 min he was , I guess in that fight he didn't want his mother getting any glory?? LOL I hate excuses more than life itself. " He's washed up and old news. I hope he gets his ass knocked out again!

I don't buy it. Roy, if you knew during or after Round 5 that you were going to lose the bout on purpose to spite your father, why wouldn't you fake an injury and quit? Why spend several more rounds getting punched in the face?

Your father, the man you wanted to shame, doesn't realize that you are losing on purpose, he just thinks his boy is getting thrashed. If you sit on your stool and refuse to get up then it becomes clear that you are bulking.

    I don't buy it.

Yeah your right, plus from a publicity stand point RJ saying he loses on purpose discredits him as a fighter and a man . I mean who would pay to a see a fighter fight who just said something like this? see what I mean ?

If You lose , for what ever the reason . 1st You keep your mouth shut, about any excuses . 2nd smile to the camera's say " your opponents a great fighter give him props shake hands with him . 3rd go home regroup and train harder!" that’s it,. I don’t care if your ribs are caved in, or your jaw was broken in 2nd R don't say nothing about it! “ That’s a real fighter, That’s a real champion “

I hated listening to Roy Jones Jr talking of himself in third person all the time but his bullshit excuses are worse. Roy please lose on purpose again next month and get out of boxing so we don't have to listen to this crap any more.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. If you wanted to make sure your father didn't get "the glory", you could have done it without losing. Just don't replace your old trainer with your father going into the fight.

i don't know, i've noticed a weirdness in Jones' personality ever since he got ko'ed the first time. I mean, his smile always looks like it's going to fall apart, he can't finish the long strands of verbage he used to fluidly unleash. I think he's a mental wreck, not because he got big time KO'ed twice, but because of the ego aftermath. I could see him blaming is father the whole time and losing the fight. Maybe not completely consciously, but maybe in retrospect. He's still a smart guy. Why do you think he stopped doing HBO.

If thats the case he should of never brought back his dad in the first place. What did he just realize this revelation while he was gettin smacked up in the 5th round that he didnt want his dad to get the credit ..Complete Trash

I don't buy that article. Was that the same guy that said Hopkins got the name Soapy from the prisons?

use logic. Why would Roy not want his father to get the credit for the win and rather have himself get the heat for the loss? See it wouldn't make any sense!

Whoever did that is trying to make Roy look like a bad guy?

IMO he wanted to win, but he never made an effort to win during the fight... he just wanted to survive... Had he wanted the win he would be light heayweight champion of the world because everytime he threw punches Tarver was overwhelmed.

Willie Pep was never allowed to fight in New York again for throwing the Lulu Lulu Perez fight. If RJJ is admitting he threw the Tarver rubber well there are potentially massive consequences.

Just to start, I know I would not be too impressed if I had a wager on RJJ to win that fight...
