Etiquette to Honor a Proud Symbol.

It is the universal custom to display the American Flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
The American Flag should be hoisted briskly & lowered ceremoniously.
The American Flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclememt, except when an all-weather flag is displayed.
No other flag or pennant (respectfully including Ohio State Buckeyes) should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the United States of America, except during churgh services conducted by naval chaplains @ sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy.
The American Flag, when flown half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant & then lowered to the half-staff position. The American Flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowerd for the day.
No disrespect should be shown to the flat of the United States of America;the American Flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organizational or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
The American Flag should never touch anything beneath it.
The American Flag should never be carried flat of horizontally, but always aloft & free.
The American Flag, when it is in such a condition that is is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be distroyed in a dignified way.
Fold appropriately & deliver to an American Legion Hall or VFW.
They will disassemble it & dispose of it honorably, that is what brad4dboxer does.
Just did it to my old one today, actually.
