Thread: The transition from amateur to PRO

I've been reading around the forums and I saw a post that said it doesn't really matter what your amateur record is because you are learning from your fights, but with a mediocre amateur record how and when do you transition from amateur to pro and getting the good fights?

It's kind of a subjective question because some guys make their pro debut at MSG for $750,000 and others make it at the local 3000 seater for $5000. Then you have to keep winning before the big payday comes. It's kind of like supply and demand. Demand goes up, price goes up.

But I don't specifically know the answer of how to transition for am. to pro. Somewhere along the lines somebody will have to convince somebody else to give you a fight and pay you for it.

From my limited view and understanding, if you can find a promoter to pay you to fight then you just have to get your pro license, medical exam, and all of that. Then you can get paid to fight. Depending on how your promoter sees you, you will either be the "home towne fighter" or the "opponent". Could be different depending on what side of the pond you live on. I have talked with a couple of club fighters (both opponent fighters) and both had extremely limited amatuer experience. Some of the other folks here can give you a better idea, but this is from my limited knowledge.

If you already boxed amature and you wanna fight professional u can easily,u dont really need a promoter for your 1st few fights ...alot of other people will be willing to fight someone who has had no fights at all ...you will get 100$ per schedualed round at the least (400$) is probably all youll make for your 1st 3 fights atleast

its just that amature is to get u used to not having stage fright and being nervous ..pro records are perminent and very public so you have a gift in being able to fight amature to get all the practice u want ....

and if u lose ur 1st 3 fights ...u still dont need a promoter cause the fighters who have promoters will be very willing to have there guys fight u because of your record

anyway the best thing u could do would be find a gym that has atleast one other active professional fighting there

I think one big thing is just knowing people. You gotta know the right people. Because if I have learned anything its that boxing is a very dirty game.

u need to know people to do well in being guided and not get over matched ...its very easy to get a fight ..its just that u may be getting used or over matched and bet against
