    Default knuckle push ups

is there anything wrong with doing them in hard floor?

my nephew who is 12 years old has been doing boxing for about 3 years and about 4 months ago he started doing knuckle push ups he now performs 65 non stop knuckle push ups on either on brick or concrete he does it with a horizontal fist not verticle, now his knuckles dont look "pretty" anymore but his knuckles have gone numb he doesnt feel a thing on his knuckles even if he burns it he doesnt feel it or if he get a needle and tries piercing through it. i wanted to ask people like scrap is this a good thing? or should he stop

It should be from callous build up on the knuckles that’s what I have .! Now he has feeling in his hands ok? As long as its not pain and as long as its just the knuckles he should be fine ! He should be one demonic puncher ! Good luck

Relentless, Smell Taste and feel are our first line of defence for protection. Ive mentioned before about understanding Feel, if you break your hand or tear a tendon and you cant feel it, its still broke. So what do you do still use it and make it worse. then never be able to make a fist again or have use off your hands in a few years, the choice is yours I know what mine would be

its only his knuckles he can feels everything else, its not like he cant feel anything its just the skin has gotten really strong and tough like we cant pierce it through with a needle, i thought it would be a good thing not feeling anything on his knuckle so he'll have less chance of hurting it

Hurting is just signals of pain going to the brain...

'Damaging' is an entirely different matter, which you can't prevent if you can't feel

you don't need to do knuckle press ups on conrete for that... use a matt or something... the stress his wrists are getting put under is from teh stress of punching.

His body will adapt accordingly to that resistance by doing just that... punching... get him on a heavy bag

Press ups etc are good for develping the power and endurances of muscles... but the action of doing press ups on the knuckles isn't really relevant to what happens to the knuckles and wrist during punching

Have him do Barbell wrist curls if you want him to strengthen his wrist.

    Preparation

Sit and grasp bar with narrow to shoulder width underhand grip. Rest forearms on thighs with wrists just beyond knees.

    Execution

Allow the barbell to roll out of the palms down to the fingers. Grip barbell back up and flex wrists. Lower and repeat.

Nothing wrong with him, its callus build up on the knuckles ! it’s a good thing, if he fractures his hand of anything of that magnitude he will feel it, ! Guarantee you that, The callus on his knuckles is a good thing, a tough layer or skin to help prevent injury ! Best of luck, hope he knocks um out !

We used to do knuckle pressups for martial arts training, but our instructor would not let anyone under 16 do them as their hands are softer as they are still growing.
