    Default About to start boxing.

An activity centre near my house has just opened up a boxing gym and I was thinking of joining just to get into good shape for now. However they only have two 1 hr 30 minute sessions a week (which I don't think is very long). Anyone got any exercises or tips I could use for outside the boxing gym. I'm 17 yrs old 6 ft 1" and weigh 175lbs.

    Thanks for any help!

Are you wanting to get in shape for boxing or just drop some pounds?

Best bet is to work on your cardio if you dont have access to a trainer. Jumping rope, running, bicycling.

Drop some pounds? you weight 175 pounds and you're 6 foot 1....

loose fat? maybe don't know if you have any to loose? Loose weight? no... muscle, fluids and energy sources are mass (like everything in this world ) and have a weight too :P

You're not a pro fighter trying to make weight or an Amatuer boxer trying to find a weight he can maintain. Forget about the scales and get fit...

Thats what I meant, I want to get fitter but I don't think 3hrs boxing a week is enough (maybe it is ) so I was just wondering what I should do outside of the ring to get fitter, to help me in the ring. If that makes sense lol. Thanks for the help!!

3 hours over 3 days is enough for some one starting out, you just have to make the most of them...

I usually do some push-ups , sit-ups and cardio so I'll just stick with that and the 3hours of boxing for now. Thanks for the info.

running, sprints, jumping rope, throwing 1000 jabs a night till it's absolutely perfect, shadow boxing, crunches, flutter kicks, working on foot work...there is always a ton of stuff you can do....If you have a video camera I would recommend Taping yourself when you shadow box to see if you're over extending, dropping hands, poor punches, poor form, etc.....this should help....
It feels good to be back home.
