Arthur faces October bout with Palomo
BRIAN DONALD
EDINBURGH'S European and Commonwealth superfeatherweight champion Alex Arthur has confirmed he will defend his European title in October against Spaniard Sergio Palomo, who is unbeaten in twenty fights.
Arthur said: "I will defend my European title against Palomo on October 28 in London at a venue yet to be confirmed.
"I'm just relieved as I was becoming increasingly frustrated at not knowing for certain who I was supposed to be fighting.
"Palomo isn't a big puncher judging by his record of less than a dozen knockouts or stoppages in his 20 bouts as a pro but I can't afford to take anything for granted.
"My main ambition this year is a world title eliminator and that would go down the tubes if I lost my European crown.
"I want to get back into the ring in October as inactivity since Sergey Gulyakivich caused a severe eyebrow injury in April has cost me dearly in terms of my world rating with the WBO which has dropped me from number three to number seven.
"After Palomo I definitely want either a world title fight or an eliminator and I wouldn't care where I had to travel to fulfil my world title dream."
