WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman will take on No.-1 rated contender and mandatory challenger Oleg Maskaev of Kazakhstan at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, Aug. 12. Rahman is the last remaining American to hold a world heavyweight title in a division recently dominated by natives of the former Soviet Union. "The Rock is America's Last Line of Defense," said Bob Arum of Top Rank promotions. "He's a great champion but he's in very tough against Maskaev." In their previous bout in 1999, Maskaev rallied late and ended up stopping Rahman in the eighth round.
Rahman, who defended his WBC belt in last fight, earning a draw against James Toney on March 18, will be a solid WagerWeb.com favorite to to win the rematch.
