Default just if anyone wanted to know about my first time at the boxing gym...

So this is just to let anyone who wants to know how my first time at the gym went.

WHOA!! Talk about a workout. Yesterday, was my first time. I didnt do a whole lot since i was new too it. But he worked me some on my stance, hand postioning, my jab, and i think it was called the cross over. hehe... i forgot. But hey, im still learning so dont dog on me. lol...

He said that my most useful punch will be the jab, cause of my height, 5,9. I hit the bag alot, working my one and one, two jab. Thats how you say it right? Then we worked a little on how my cross over should be. But we didnt get into that alot. O yea, and i also need to learn to keep my right up by my chin, i kept droping it. Any help on that?

He also said that i would prob go from my 135lbs to around 120 or 125lbs, and i would tone up alot. Which im really looking forward to.

Well thats about it i think. I am going for my second day today. . im excited. I really enjoyed it.

Anymore help would be great. Thanks

good stuff. it's highly addictive. soon you'll forget about all other sports.

dropping your hands is something we almost all go through. nothing can break the habit until your trainer starts popping you in the kisser. but once you've learned it, blocking shots is second nature and you'll soon be doing it with your eyes open like it's nothing.

work lots in the mirror. it's the best to see what you are and aren't doing.

Congrats on takin the first step. Nothing hotter than a chick who can handle herself

Out of curiosity, you doing this to fight or just to get in shape?
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?

not sure bout websites? depends what you wana look for really search on google,
if your lookin for gear its probably best to pop down to you local sports shop and grab some cheap ones down there you dont wana spend a bomb, but they dont wana be cheap and nasty! jus check the obvious things when you get em, padding, stitching you'll see if theyr of a good enough quality, n also i dunno if you have an intersport near you? but i got my bag for £30 from there bargain!

I was pretty bad with dropping my hands when I started... Best way to get used to it is to hold them up there when praciticing anything. Like when you start learing footwork & moving around your opponent, make sure you keep your hands stuck up there where they are supposed to be, even if you aren't learning any punching of defence at the time.... Try to live in that stance when your practicing anything in the gym & eventually they'll stay up there..

Of course your brain learns very quickly after you eat a few punches, so don't stress about it to much.

Personally I think that you should get the heaviest bag you can, no matter what your weight...

keep throwing your jab everyday after practice....between 500-1000 times....focus on perfect form not speed(that will come) put a line down the walk and make sure your feet are on either side of it.....don't cross over ever!! look down after a couple of jabs and see how your feet are...also remember the jab is a short step not a hop...your foot should practically slide over the floor......anything over 8 inches is overextending and your balance and ability to throw crosses and hooks will be greatly affected.....good luck and keep us posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!

noooooooo!!!!......if they are 20 bucks there is probably something wrong......You should invest in some quality gloves ....check out www.ringside.com or www.titleboxing.com or www.everlast.com for their training and bag gloves.....the cheap ones are exactly that...I have some everlast gloves with the wraparound that I will only use for bag work..and they were on sale for 30.00....but I also have mexican style from ringside for sparring that were 60.00....your hands are your way..don't risk hurtin them...get with your trainer and see what he recommends....and if he recommends those cheap elastic pieces of crap I would look for a new trainer/coach.....good luck....
