Some would lead us to believe that this magazine and their phylosophy is the golden rule of boxing but I dont think most fans hold this view. This ranking system is no more than opinions and hardly recognized by the press. Although I am sure their philosophy is better than the current one with all its problematic sanctioning bodies it is still actually just a boxing news magazine attempting to make its own news and maybe boost some sales.

the ring has been involved with several scandals http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news/pierce0708.php

The Ring also has tight associations with don King and at one time fighters had to be ranked by The Ring in order to be on the ABC heavyweight series promoted by Don King, but The Ring's rankings were less than honest. http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_ho...s/5710767.html

Although many of their writers are very good some are over the edge such as a guy named Jeff Ryan who in the 2005 ring magazine year book P.110 writes a whole article on why George Forman who he repeatedly refers to as incapable, a buffoon, bone headed, etc…. should be fired from HBO and then brags about writing a letter to HBO Executive producer Ross Greenburg asking for George's removal from the show. How arrogant can a magazine be to publish this crap? On the other hand the Rings Jeff Ryan goes on and on about how valiant and intelligent Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley are and what a shame it must have been for them to work with big Jim

Oscar likes them though http://www.doghouseboxing.com/duran/coyote_080206.htm
