Thread: PPV numbers for Rahman Maskaev VERY poor.

According to a report by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Hasim Rahman vs Oleg Maskaev did poorly. The Heavyweight bout generated a live gate of of about $1.7 million.

The PPV numbers were very good either. Only about 60,000 pay-per-view subscriptions were sold for the event.

Rafael reports that Promoter Bob Arum probably lost more than $1 million on the fight and the fight did so poorly that
HBO won't be making any public announcement.

The event cost close to $50 and those who bought it withnessed Hasim Rahman lose by 12 round TKO to Oleg Maskaev.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Surprise surprise. Making this thing a PPV was the most ridiculous thing that's happened in a while. Two old, mediocre boxers battle it out for a meaningless title. What a storyline! I definitely didn't waste any money on it.

It actually turned out to be a pretty good fight card though ironically.

Humberto Soto looked fantastic against Ivan Valle, David Diaz pulled off a big comeback win over Jose Santa Cruz and the Rahman Maskaev fight itself was as recent heavyweight go a good'un.

I watched the "main event" on the free rebroadcast and was not terribly enlivened by it. At least we got a KO, but only after almost 12 full rounds of poor showing and exhaustion from those bums. I'm glad to hear the undercard was more worthwhile.

I aint surprised by this at all.

neither did I...and to think most of those buys were restaurants and bars....nice to see the public finally putting their collective foot down....these HW fights suck major a** and need to be put under a microscope!!!!

And you what the funny thing is? Ironically Maskieav - Rahman was one of only maybe 6 heavyweight fights that were worth a shit in the last 6-7 years. LMFAO Go figure and you know why that was? because the referee would not let them hold each other ! I love Jay Nady.. That's how you Referee a Heavyweight fight, threaten to take points. He made them fight hard ! And thus gave the fans an entertaining Heavyweight bout ! Praise to Nady the best Referee in the sport !

I don't know if it was top 6 in the past 6-7 years, but I agree it was better than expected--even better than average. And I hear you on the holding instructions, but really--I didn't think Maskaev was holding on a lot of those. Corey Spinks would have another loss on his record and no title at 154 if the ref in his fight against Karmazin hadn't broken them up for "holding" every time the fighting was in close.
