Default Oscar really starting to take over boxing--GBP signs Juan Diaz

    www.boxingtalk.com

I'm not saying he's taking over just cause he signed Juan Diaz--although its another good young fighter GBP has signed--but just overall GBP's stable of fighters is becoming ridiculous

I stole a good post from Amat on an earlier thread I did about GBP signing JMM cause I didn't want to type it all out again, look at all the talent Oscar's assembling:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WOW. De La Hoya has boxing by the throat now. Take a look at this.

    Top Rank fighters.

    Paulie Ayala
    Mike Alvarado
    Jose Luis Castillo
    Martin Castillo
    Steven Luevano
    Miguel Cotto
    Kid Diamond
    Carlos Hernandez
    Vanes Martirosyan
    Erik Morales
    Victor Ortiz
    Kelly Pavlik
    Antonio Margarito
    Hasim Rahman
    Zahir Raheem
    Giovanni Segura
    Anthony Thompson
    Bobby Pacquiao
    Brian Viloria
    Yuri Foreman
    Jose Armando Santa Cruz
    Joshua“Hitter” Clottey
    Humberto Soto

Outside of Morales, there are no marquee names on there. I mean seriously. Well, Cotto is one. And the jury is out on how Castillo gets recepted his next time out. Margarito is basically living and dying at Mayweather's doorstep despite not beating a top 5 fighter yet. Plus, word is, he might leave Arum anyways. Arum has been a top promoter for years, but his current crop is very underwhelming. Outside of Clottey, Margarito, Raheem, Soto, Pavlik and Foreman, I don't see to much championship material in there. And Golden Boy is snatching EVERYONE and merging with a lot of the small time promoters. Still debate on whether or not they are the top promoters of today. Now lets look at Golden Boy.

    Daniel Ponce De Leon
    Marco Antonio Barrera
    Bernard Hopkins
    Oscar Larios
    Oscar De La Hoya
    Demetrius Hopkins
    Otis Griffin
    Rock Allen
    Juan Manuel Marquez
    Hugo Cazares
    Abner Mares
    Aaron Garcia
    Kingsley Ikeke
    Juan Lazcano
    Marco Antonio Rubio
    Vincente Escobedo
    Jorge Barrios
    Jonathan Oquendo
    Ishe Smith
    Fernando Montiel
    Librado Andrade
    Jhonny Gonzalez
    Javier Jauregui
    Ray Bautista
    Antonio Escalante
    David Lopez
    Shane Mosley
    Kassim Ouma
    Z Gorres
    Walter Mathysse
    Winky Wright

Mighty big difference. Plus the prospects appear to be better on the Golden Boy side, so...out of nowhere, Oscar De La Hoya has become the biggest force in boxing, or at least it looks like it.

A while back, when Golden Boy was created and Oscar showed he was serious, I predicted that somewhere down the line, he would become the biggest promoter. I mean, his frontmen are Bernard Hopkins, Marco Antonio Barrera, Winky Wright, Johnny Tapia among others. All fighters who have gone through promotional ups ad downs, dealt with crooked managers and eventually made it to the other side. A young fighter (such as Rock Allen) looks and can go several directions. He can go with Don King or Bob Arum who have notoriously screwed fighters over in the past and almost never have a good word said about them by retired boxers, or a camp made up entirely of people who were in their position before. It's a no brainer. I can't beleive this didn't happen before. I would have expected it 15-20 years ago and I thought it was almost to late for the torch to be passed. It wasn't. And the torch wasn't passed, more like stolen. Great for boxing.

Sorry for the random thoughts, just kind of eye opening.

I think it's great also. In all reality why would you NOT want ODH, and his extremely successful partners promoting you?

My idea for him to really sew up the up and comers is to open up gyms nationwide. Have special appearances by one of his fighters each month at each gym, and provide quality training and facilities. Even people that don't want to turn pro would participate. They should be franchises. I am up for opening one.

    Oscar give me a call!!!!!

    CC oumafan.

And I agree completely luvfightgame, and I have a feeling that that isn't to farfetched. Diaz is another TALENT guy, hopefully Oscar is able to land all these guys' big fights, which I'm sure he will. That Juarez-Barrrera card is card of the year so far imo.

CC oUMAFAN,exactly what I was thinking and it can only be good for fans now that there is an alternative to Arum/King. Plus like Amat said, the card this saturday is card of the year AND 1 of the best cards I have ever seen personally!

I think thats really good I personally dont like king and arum they screw fighters a lot lets just hope that oscar does this for the good of boxing and not screw boxers like all the other promoters.
Juan diaz is a great fighter I want too see him with better opposition, he has an amazing stamina he trows like a million punches every time he fights.
I want to see him fight corrales i think that would be a good fight and show how good of a boxer he is.

This is all good news for boxing as far as im concerned! Someone who cares for the fighters rather then just the cash.

Hey who better to peomote you than another fighter....From what I understand he is generous with his guys and looks out for them better than most promoters...At this rate he will be bigger than Don King in a matter of a few years.....What a career??....Gold medalist...Multi time world champ in multi divisions...a former P4P fighter...And now Major promoter....Plus I think he holds the record on all time Ring Earnings....Not posotive but pretty sure

He definitely has some good names there but I'm not sure whether he actually has better talent than Top Rank.

I mean the biggest name on his list is obviously Oscar himself, then Hopkins who has retired but who is also his business partner. As I understand it Mosely and Barrera are business partners too so they are not really being promoted in the sense that say the boxers in Top Rank are.

Not sure if Winky has worked out some kind of business deal with Oscar as well as just being promoted.

Take away Oscar, Hopkins, Mosely, Barrera and possibly Wright and then you'd have to give the edge to Top Rank still.

It will be interesting to see how GBP develops and whether or not he can sign any real big names aside from his partners.

IMO, these are the fighters from both stables with the potential to have a great future in boxing. All young fighters with the best ahead of them. IMO, I think GoldenBoy has the edge. Not to mentio Mosley, Barrera and Wright haha

The point is that the resume looks quite impressive and they are listed in his stable even him/himself... Even though they may be business partners in a way... Isnt that what a regular promoter and fighter are in a sence...
