    Default Hatton v Urango confirmed

Hatton has confirmed his fight against Urango will be in Atlanta on Jauary 13th. Castillo is also appearing on the bill, and on the basis the two win a deal for the two to meet is 'almost' a done deal !

    Source is Skysports;
Ricky Hatton has confirmed he will be fighting Juan Urango next - in January 2007.

The two-weight world champion will do battle for his old IBF light-welterweight belt in Georgia, leaving newly-crowned WBC champ Junior Witter in the lurch.

Witter immediately called out Hatton again following his points win over DeMarcus Corley on Friday, but has been told to wait.

As well as confirming his January 13 date with Urango - even though he'd wanted to fight a full two months earlier - Hatton also revealed that a superfight with Jose Luis Castillo is "virtually a done deal".

"I'm contracted to HBO for my next two fights and they're practically done deals now," he said.

"I don't see why a little bit further down the line that if Junior makes a couple of defences I can fight him.

"I'll be fighting Juan Urango on January 13 which is a little bit of a disappointment because I was hoping to fight in October or November but that's the only date HBO had available.

"On the undercard will be Castillo. Should I get past Urango they're lining up Castillo for me.

"If Junior can hold onto his belt and make a few defences the fight against me will be even bigger.

Hatton has been out in the States on a fact-finding mission this week.

The Hitman, Team Hatton have been checking out gym facilities in Atlanta as well as the city's two main stadiums, the 76,000 seat Atlanta Dome and the Phillips Arena, which seats 18,000 and could be the venue for the Urango fight.

He then flew to Las Vegas as a guest of Marco Antonio Barrera. Hatton dined with the Mexican the night before the fight and led his entourage into the ring ahead of the points win over Rocky Juarez.

For me Ricky really needs to step it up in 07, 3 fights at least i would like to see. It surely cannot help him in the long run to be so inactive at such a crucial point in his career!

Urango is a bit of a means to an end really. It all boils down to Castillo, if that goes ahead then all is well. If that goes down the pan and we end up with another last minute Dennis Holback Pederson (sp?) then the shit hits the fan.

at this point I will say with confidence the Tszyu fight will be the biggest fight Hatton ever has....though Brits will argue because he'll take on Witter too.

I highly doubt Hatton will fight the following:

    Miguel Cotto
    Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    Oscar De la Hoya
    Shane Mosley
    Vivian Harris
    Carlos Baldomir

the thing that worries me about this is line up is... that is if Hatton wins all 3 there wouldn't be a mayweather matchup until earliest 2008 or 2009 the rate hes fighting at the minute....

so im begining to think they aint gonna meet ever... SHAME

Cotto and Mayweather or the only 2 out of that list im intrested in seeing him fight... but it looks very doubtful now.

    Totally agree

I wonder (the way Ricky fights) how many more times he can go to the well and fight a full gruelling 12 rounds, so I would be looking for that career defining fight next year

Urango couldnt even beat Ben Rabah, to be honest. So how the HELL is he even going to get near to the man who beat Kostya Tszyu? Ricky or Jesus (as an earlier topic mentioned) will walk thru him and pound him until Urango drops. 6th at the most! We want Ricky down here in Australia for a rematch with KT. At a normal time though!

Unless Cotto or Mayweather decide to come in weight i find it hard we'll see Rick fight any one of them

I personally have full confidence Ricky could go to the well many more times if needed. His training regime is second to none to be fair. How many other boxers do ya know can/ will do 15 rounds on the body bag a week before the fight?

The Urango fight doesn't exactly wet the appetite but If he at least fights three times next year, one of them against Castillo, it will just about make up for the waste this year has been.

De la hoya is only having 1 more fight and is 3 weights above rick so that has no chance.

Mosely is 2 weights above rick and will be retired before ricks current contract runs out with HBO so that will never happen.

Baldomir will get beaten off mayweather then dissappear from all rankings so that wont happen.

Mayweather is the one rick wants and i think it will happen but not til at least 2008

cotto will happen i feel but again maybe not til 2008 and thats if cotto dosent get beat beforehand.

Harris - im glad you put one joke opponent in there, cheered me up a little.
