Default Frank Warren promises to try and make Calzaghe v Kessler in February

Speaking on Radio 5 Live at around 1.30pm GMT, Frank Warren said:

"Kessler unified the WBA and WBC version of the belts last night as well, so if we can make that happen then we will definitely have a look at that one when Joe fights next in February.
"Joe gets tremendous acclaim and he has been getting the exposure in the states.
"If there is an unification it is against a Dane, so what would be the point of putting a Dane against a Brit in the states.
"Personally I would like to see him against Bernard Hopkins. That would make for an intriguing fight and I think it depends on whether Bernard wants to come out of retirement and fight. It would certainly bring Joe more acclaim in America."

Sorry, I was typing as I listen, so I missed bits of what he said, but this is certainly the jist of it.

CC, for the news....Ive no complaints with any of that. I dont envisage Hopkins changing all of his plans to fight Calzaghe. It didnt happen then, less chance of it happening now...

Calzaghe: Kessler....and maybe as soon as February?! Nice.

Look at Warren's face.....he wants to be a trainer as well as everything else. He wasn't happy with Joe last night, and probably rightly so. If he'd have boxed he might have made a better impression all around. While he was on the radio, he also emphasised that Joe would be the only unified title holder through all the divisions, and the lure of that could be a big factor. If it is made, there are bundles of money to be made, and I will be bouncing about like a jumping bean till feb with excitement.

Calzaghes hands were stupidly low half the fight. I really dont know what that was about. The number of times Bika landed because of it! Very silly, tactic!

Indeed, Warren looks a right sight!! Cant be easy watching your number 1 cash cow acting so churlishly!

    Exactly!

    Fuck Hopkins!

They can never get Hopkins or Jones in the ring so whats the point in trying, especially when you have an undefeated two belt holding champion - calling you out - who you can make a massive unification fight with.

    Agreed.

Hopkins and Jones Jr are practically retired at anyways are too elusive to sign up for fights. Unless its a fight that they themselves seem to have pursued.

Fight Kessler, the best option bar none...

    CC back mate

After the Calzaghe fight they showed the Kessler KO over Beyer, so obviously it's become a fight the fat cats are interested in.

Thing is though, I wonder how much more of a threat FW considers Kessler compared to Hopkins, Jones and the like....

    Interesting poser.

At this point in time I think that though fighting Jones or Hopkins would bring greater recognition and money to Calzaghe.....and related, I do also feel that these fights are not as difficult for Calzaghe at this stage in his career. Hopkins, lets face it, had his final hurrah against Tarver. Calzaghe is superior to Tarver. Noticably so. As for Jones Jr when was the last time he really beat somebody? Prince whatisname was a carefully selected fight to make Jones look good. I dont buy Jones Jr at 37 being anything close to his peak...these 2 fights bring the money Warren likes and greater recognition for his fighter, which in turn will lead to more dollars...

Kessler is young, hungry and just coming off his most impressive win yet. Kessler would be a very big fight, after all, all the belts would be unified. But beating Jones or Hopkins would bring Calzaghe the greater US recognition.....but in terms of competitiveness perhaps the Kessler bout does have the edge in posing a threat..
