Default Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?

Well pretty obviously it needs to happen.

Assuming it does, and I'm definitely not certain that it will, who would win. Why?

    OK, OK.......
I'm gonna say it.... I didnt wanna say it cause people were gonna say something like 'Now Kesslers the man to everybody cause he beat Beyer' I'm putting this out cause I really did do this. If you check the threads back in late '04 begining of '05 I created a thread about fighters that I felt were the future of the boxing world in my list I had: 'Bad' Chad Dawson, Steven Luevano, Librado Andrade, Giovani Segura, Mikkel Kessler, Jose Navarro and others.

Anyway my point is I've always felt Kessler has the goods and I aint lying if you think I'm lying search back and you'll find the thread.

Kessler is just such a physical fighters and goes forward, IMO Kessler would be toooo much for Joe I really think Kessler can stop Joe. No doubt about it, I can assure you IF Joe decides to do that whole tauting and how he puts his hands to the side really low hes gonna be a done deal. I bet he doesnt do that with Kessler.

So I voted Kessler mid-way stoppage rd. 6-8.

I don't know who would win, I know Calzaghe would fight a smarter and better fight than he did against Bika. Calzaghe's probably faster but Kessler throws straighter punches, maybe smarter too, definitely takes less risks.

    I might lean towards Kessler.

Welcome to the forum heres your 1st cool click, on me.

I've seen Joe do that whole arms to the side thing in about 4 fights at first I thought it was a sign of tiredness in his arms but then I saw the other fights and realised it something he does. Not sure why? But he does it, now that might be just the way he fights all the time or he might just do that when he feels his opponent poses no threat to him.

Cc. I agree with pretty much all your points. Except that I think Kessler would stop him in 4 or 5 rounds

    Back at 'ya.
    cc.
At 1st my instincts told me early stoppage but then I figured Joe would get on his bike and pedal not only that but pedal backwards. So I said he would probably get away with that for about half of the fight 'till Kessler catches up with him.

Its like the pre Lacy days all over again!!

Calzaghe would be much more professional against Kessler, there would be more attention on this fight and everything at stake....a fight that would add to his legacy in a greater way than the Lacy fight...you can bet he will be ready...

Lets not forget something here. He blew away Beyer. Beyer is not Joe Calzaghe.

Calzaghe has an iron chin, great handspeed, high output and vastly UNDERRATED boxing skills. Kessler is the man with it all to prove against Calzaghe...

Too many minds are being swayed by last weekends fights....

Calzaghe by decsion or late tko....

Kessler's style falls very much into Calzaghe's counterpunching style. of course Kessler could catch Calzaghe with that straight right in between those flurries, but his hooks would be ineffective if Calzaghe keeped his hands up.

I'm not so much swayed by last weekend, although I was impressed with Kessler's performance, I'm of the opinion that Joe can fight a lot better than he did versus Bika.

I do think Kessler's a tougher matchup for Joe than Lacy though, he's got more options, great jab, better defensively, a smarter fighter. Kessler's agressiveness is more controlled and smarter than Lacy's too, less open. I think its a real close matchup.

Yes, It would certainly be a much closer contest than the Lacy fight. Kessler is a good all round fighter and he does have decent skills.

Of all the options being bandied about such as Jones Jr, Hopkins and Kessler...Kessler has the greatest chance of beating Calzaghe IMO. But to beat Calzaghe Kessler will need some luck....a peak form Calzaghe has him out of there with a clear UD/TKO...
