Default Calzaghe v Taylor.... Warren in talks

    Warren quote

Warren added: "We've been in discussions with Taylor and that's a fight we would like, but first he has to come through this one."

Great potential matchup but who wins?

    Somebody pass the salt...

I'd go for Calzaghe, purely on the fact Taylor bores me to death...

Anyone want to get into a discussion about the state of british boxing and how our fighters are protected?

    Good shout.

    I say no.

I think the americans are simply to insular and border on the xenophobic.

The accepted line seems to be unless you prove yourself in the US then your a nobody. If the Americans want the fight badly enough then why shouldn't they come over here? It's pure double standards IMO.

...and don't give me all this bollocks about biased refs just cos Ricky Hatton threw a low blow at Kostya Tszyu and he 'got away with it'. US based refs are just as likely to give the house fighter the benefit of the doubt...and that's fact.

Anyway, Frank Warrens has done a great job of creating an infrastructure in which domestic fighters can still earn decent money without having to venture stateside...and that's a good thing.

When Nigel Benn was at his peak and a worldwide name, many many times do i recall fight after fight lined up for Nige falling through and Warren was saying then exactly what he says now about certain foreign fighters purse demands doubling a few days before the contract is signed.
    The question?
    Do we believe him?
I think in the case of Calzaghe,Warren has protected his investment and maybe now even more so with Hatton Jumping ship
There is also a good case for those who feel it is "Other fighters" who have been protected from our boys.
After all i firmly believe that after Benn/McClellan,Roy Jones ducked Nigel (Big Time) and Steve Collins (which IS common knowledge).
Warren has stated that Khan will be challenging for honours soon as possible but that would be foolish imo as proved with Naseem who (let's be honest) was made to look a c*nt by the far superior Barrera.
It's a double edged sword and we'll never really know but i think it's often a 50/50 thing.

Surely Hameds experience would suggest that Amir should get stuck in on foreign soil sooner rather than later? His peak will come say five years from now. I'd prefer him to be fighting in the States (if thats what he wants) then rather than five years past his best like Hamed was.

When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Calzaghe and Warren are a double act.

Ricky Hatton wanted no part in a threesome and left the party to pursue genuine fights, sick of swallowing bull how 'foreign fighters' dare not visit.

Ricky told warren :Tyzsu or bust.

Afterwards Ricky left, basically because Warren was grooming Amir Khan and had been thrown as huge hotel party in London - the night Ricky beat Ray Olivera - and not even invited the Hitman (as confirmed by Hatton in his autoboigraphy)

Warren & Calzaghe will take the Taylor fight only in the Millenium or MEN - i bet my mansion, porches and racehorses on it !

    They are in cahoots.

I was there that night. We were in the hotel after the fight and Rick was doing the usual thing of enjoying a guinness with his family. However, we found out that the hotel we were in had made no provision for showing the Cotto fight. Rumours swept round the bar that Frank was throwing a party down the road (also showing the Cotto fight) and he wanted Ricky to attend. Ricky was with his family and went on the provision that he could bring some people with him. So about a thousand taxis were ordered and the entire bar turned up at Franks gala event

    Nice place

Currently Id pick Calzaghe over Taylor, however, as I said elsewhere, I will be shocked if Calzaghe ever meets Taylor (or indeed Wright) in the ring.

    Fingers crossed though!

PS - When is this potential fight being touted for - mid/late 2007?

Here here mate - what a dull, lacklustre, 'just do enough' fighter he is.

I think Taylor will get found out very soon!

Taylor might be a bore but judging by his last few fights it's not really surprising

Hopkins and Winky? Not exactly two names that make for exciting fights Did Hopkins ever have a fight where the crowd DIDN'T boo?

Thats a bad thing, Smash? Remember this is FW talk. Khan hasn't fought anyone that could break eggs yet, there's at least another 15 stiffs for him to face before he challenges for world honours. Honours being the WBU title, of course.

Naz won the European title in his 12th fight and the WBO in his 20th

Hope I'm wrong but I bet yer Khan never gets close to Naz's achievements

    Good thread this.
So f*cking glad this board has seemingly taken off at last
Agree that Taylor is f*cking boring to watch of recent but i have seen him on fire on occasion
And i guess we'll see about Khan
One thing i will say on Naz is that he could take a punch

I agree for the most part, but fair play, there are many american fans on this board who don't have the blinkered view that their armchair compatriots have. The main reason that Americans diss British fighters is that in order to gain respect, they have to fight in an American fighter's backyard, and not only prove their superiority, but prove that superiority beyond any doubt so that they can't be robbed by the ref. And if they are robbed, the partisan home fans will then say that they were right all along, and that the Brit was nothing but a hyped bum. Which so very nearly happened to Ricky Hatton last time out.
