Unbelievably...Joe Mesi & Hassim Rahman are set to headline a card in West Virginia

Shockingly...Undefeated heavyweight Joe Mesi and former world heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman are set to headline in separate bouts on the same card at the Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort in West Virginia on February 22, 2007 in a Top Rank promoted co-feature.

Apparently, if they both win their respective matches then the two "champs" will most likely square off against each other later in 2007.

Personally...this totally disgusts me. How about you?

I caught a fight on TV the other day with Mesi....Before I took a good look at who it was I thought it was John Ruiz...Mesi was sporting a new full faced beard...Big Problem though he looked about half as impressive as Ruiz

The guy had somebroken blood vessel(s) inside his head ie. the brain
They said it was a wring diagnosis and has had no evidence of it since after many many test by top doctors. I think it's ok to let him fight again. He's still young. It's not like he's a drooling punch drunk Old geezer (like me into my second 26'er of vodka) Rahman I always liked too. Just run into some equally tough guys. Id like to watch em both.
(Once again i disagree with Wacko.....my days are numbered...)

Trust me...when & if he comes into some legit competition & ends up laying dead in a ring...not only will it be bad for Mesi's family members...that shit will be horrible for boxing.

It'd be similar to handing an alcoholic that just had a car accident & almost killed someone another driver's license.

There are rules against shit like this situation with Mesi. Let him die & watch Senator McCain shut down boxing faster than a goose can shit.

Yeah...I'm all for Mesi. Go Joe.

Every fight is dangerous. Its the nature of the beast. You said that there are rules AGAINST this situation. what rules specifically are you referring to? Are there rules being broken to allow this fight? I think we need to remember that this is a free country and people have free will and rights as well, including Joe Mesi. right or wrong. If he has a current medical condition or is at a "high" risk, I think that they would NEVER break rules and expose themselves to possible civil or even criminal prosecusion for the benifit of any fighter. I bet they have gone over his case with a fine toothed comb and are unable to prevent him from fighting. I guess that Rahman has done enough to still be credible as a stepping stone even after the Maskaev defeats. He'll need a big name win to move back into the top ranks ever again. One or 2 fighters die in boxing every year. But about 10 football players die. Also about 100 men die on the golf course!!!! (honest!)
Mesi did beat a few guys tho,Jirov,Barrett,Williamson,Izon,Gonzales & my ol' warhorse Bert Cooper. I'll be interested to see how far he goes. Hey,. If Mesi dies while I'm watching the fight....I'll send flowers.

Maybe Briggs should be banned! What if he dies in the ring from an Asthma attack!? 5000 people each year in the USA alone do!

How many people play football and golf compared to boxing at a top level though... Although you make a good point about the NFL, I think they seriously need to monitor some of their linebackers and such and revoking licenses or something to that effect could be implemented there as well considering how obese some of them are getting... As far as this scenario though I totally agree with Wacko.. THis is terrible, Mesi is at very serious risk in every fight he has now, no to mention the potential for disaster if he and Rahman face off.. I can't see anything wrong with Rahman fighting on, and although he does seem to have many lives, it's not as if he is the one to worry about in this case... Rahman can still punch really hard, and Mesi has arguably never faced anyone as dangerous... NOW is certainly not the time.. Joe needs to be banned from boxing imo, but it's so hard to know how many fighters are in a similar position all over the world and simply dont receive as much attention.. Whether there are many cases like his or not, Mesi is under the microscope and imo he is acting dellusionaly and does not realize that he can impact the entire sport so negatively.. Its not worth it, he will not be a top contender EVER again, and he shouldn't even bother trying to climb the ranks because any step up could literally end his life..

Yes everyone has free choice, but that doesn't mean that I can step into a boxing ring if I want to, cause I'd get knocked the F**k ou, and probably end up dead. Now Mesi is a pro boxer, but one who suffered from some injuries which could become life threatening if he continues to box as previously mentioned, so he shouldn't be allowed to step into a pro fight again. I don't want to see fighters seriously hurt, that's why I have no problem with tkos that others judge to "early" or whatever else they may be referred to as, even less do I want to see a fighter die in the ring!
