    Default Jaw Hurts

So i got clocked real good last week, i think it was last tuesday, so its been almost a full week. Some "prick" (okay enough of that) took advantage of my inexperience to put me down to one knee with a good shot to the jaw (actually not his fault, i dont blame him, it was a good lesson learned). Anyway, when the punch landed, I head a good loud "ripping" sound in my jaw. Its been damn sore for the past week now, hurts all the time when i try to chew or talk or anything. Just one side, the left. This normal?

sure your jaw will be sore when you get hit with good shot. if the pain does not subside in a week or so, get it checked out..

I have had matches where I win big , felt great right after the match ,, even the next day was alright then on the second day I felt like I fallen 6 stories and landed on my face.

Yehh the adrenaline keeps you feeling good..soon as it wears off after a good nights sleep you can feel such mental pain that just creeps up..Sucks

If you have a visit to the dentist due ask them to have a look. Failing that an osteopath would be able to correct any misalignment.

It's definately normal, but it's not what you want. That's how you get knocked out or stunned. When the jaw experiences a sharp blow it pushes on the brain tissue. You may not have felt any symptoms but believe me...these all add up. Slowly, but surely. It's important to have correct fitting mouth guard. Make sure it goes back to the end on the mouth. Some people cut it off too short which ruins the guard. Also, the beginners have difficulty biting down because they breathe too hard through it. Work on breathing through the nose and not the mouth.

    (off topic)

I stepped into an elbow one day when rough housing at work from a much larger guy and felt the exact same pain you are describing. I could only close down the one side of my mouth but the pain went away in a about a week.

Go see the dentist or the jaw expert, ASAP.

If it's nothing then, ok. If it's something then it can be mis-aligned a lot easier next time. What they do, I believe, is give you some meds and shots to dampen the swelling....... if it's sore, prob, swelling... the less the swell, the better, because you don't want to over-stretch the ligaments and muscles of the jaw that keeps it in place.
And you want it too heal fast, without any more trama. So don't box for awhile.
At least that is my understanding.

You want to prevent something that could be bad.

My jaw permanently cracks now if I move it a certain way, because of a punch. I believe it could have been prevented had I saw a specialist doctor immediately after.

But I had a huuuuge swelling, hahah, like a chip-munk. Stupid me, thought I could never get hurt. :P
