I used to get sparring nerves... Im not entirely sure why but its a comfort thing in my opinion..
Before i sparr i dont think about bieng nervous or any of that..Im thinking.. what do i want to do in sparring tonight..And if im sparring with one of the really good lads..I am perhaps a little..But until youve done that first round you wont cure that..Everytime i step in i think right..Start off.. just keep calm..
stick the jab and watch..Look for parries and keep the feet moving and hands up...
I just keep it simple until i find my rythym..
But in all fairness i enjoy sparring too much to be nervous... Theres really nothing about sparring that makes me a little worried.. All the lads in my gym are bad fighters.. bad as they come..
so ive always got work to do.. But even things like getting marked up and hurt are fine by me..I like to come home with a nice bruise every now n then..
I mean sometimes you feel stupid about slipping or looking ugly in the ring but at the end of the day..If you spar the best you can then thats nothing..
I just sujest that you keep it basic let yourself know that you like your style ..Youve got it down and if you just build it up and commit to sparring properly you'll get better and better and really enjoy it..
Its important you keep whats best for you though..Dont go off trying to fight like roy jones floyd mayweather or anyone else..Just keep it simple and adapt your style to what's best for you..
    Good luck.

You dont HAVE to spar anyone man. If you dont feel comfortable, just say no. But it would be a good learning experience. For example, I've been boxing for a little less than a month. Last week, I got into the ring with a former Golden Gloves State Champ, 25 pounds heavier than me, who's been boxing for years..... Didnt get nervous a bit. However, I got my ass handed to me. He caught me with a good uppercut when I let my jab hang out too long. Put me down to one knee on the canvas, and my jaw still hurts. But I took it as a learning experience. I've sparred 3 times since then, and needless to say, I bring my jab right back to guard position every time now.

Also, if this guy is experienced as you say, he should understand your level of boxing ability, and act accordingly. Unless he's some kinda "prick"

Dont worry about it my friend..
If your sparring with this lad he wont hurt you...
I sparr a lad called nathan at my gym most weeks.. Alot of losses on his record but they werent for nothing the kid is mental good.. He is slick as they come and a real powerful hitter..They regard him as one of the best in the country aparently because in his last three fights he fought something like a two time aba champion..Some other sort of british or english champ and some guy with an immense record and beat them all... The thing is it took all those losses to mould himself into the fighter he is now..
And he is something special undoubtably..
But the point is that he's a real humble lad.. Sometimes they say to him..Just use the left..Work on your defence.. Throw both hands but i want to see you rolling and slipping puches and working the jab....
You see they dont stick you in there to get hurt..
They want you in with this kid so that you get a good workout and build up your experiance asmuch you can...He knows all the tricks and they want him to test you and keep you moving keep you thinking.. keep you working..
This guy is gona bring the best out in you and they know it..Whilst at the same time.. You might not be in the same class as him..But he can work on other things like defence and stuff..
But do not worry... Just go in there and fight smart and do yourself proud mate
    Cc Peace.

Relentless, this might be harsh but someone has to be honest with you. Find a new sport.

you know why your nervous cause you about to get into a fight ! once you understand that, there is nothing to worry about ! so relax !

the samurai were excellent warriors in Japan during the 12th century , one main reason was, they embraced the fact that death might occur in battle , as opposed to being scared of it.

    Lol chill von....
Relentless you keep at it mothersmoker!! ..You aint quittin on nothing..
Just work on everything new you learn until you feel you are completely confident in your capabilities..
Once your skill starts picking up then you'll start to enjoy sparring and forget about the nerves..
Dont think this aint the sport for me or nothin..You want it you work at it..You'll get where you want..
You aint a pussy..Your just inteligent enough to seek advice for something 100% of people get when they start out and only 10% are smart enough and brave enough to ask..
    Peace
