Default Got my first amature fight!

I was under the impression that the boxing "show" I am fighting in next month was just that, a show. However, when I was handed my USA boxing passbook tonight, and told that it would be my first amature fight, I was a bit suprised. Definatly amped for it though !

Anyway, I know the question has been asked a million times, and even answered by me once or twice, but do you guys think 2 1/2 months of boxing is too soon to have my first amature fight?

I don't think it's too soon. Everyone has to start somewhere. Of course they will put you in the ring only with another noob, so it's not like you're absolutely not gonna have a fair chance.

I think if you're in fairly good physical shape and can last a few rounds without being too out of breath, and have reasonasble form and skill, you should do okay.

Post back here after the fight and let us know all the details of what happened! I'm interested to find out, as I hope to have my first fight in the next few months.

yep you have to start somewhere, just make sure you throw those straight scoring shots alot, and punch out when they have you cornered, use your footwork to get away from trouble, if you're smart and work the ring well then you'll stay out of trouble, score well and win the fight. Also one of the most important things is to keep those hands glued to your chin and your elbows tucked in to maintain a good defence...

On paper yes... the other kid will most likely of had no more than 2 bouts... probably 0.

But he could of been in the gym for years... sparred loads etc... so never assume he's gonna be at your level... got to assume you're going in there with Tyson until you learn you way around the circuit and get to know who's in the mix.

Even then you still need to bring your A game into the ring...

Well, fortunatly my trainer is the one organizing the show. Obviously, being my trainer, he is well aware of my abilities (i'm a master of pointing out the obvious ). According to USA boxing rules, I will be fighting someone else with 0 amature fights. And he's gonna do his best to match me up with someone with a similar level of boxing experience (meaning someone who hasnt been in the gym for years). Also, I've been sparring a few kids in my weight class who have been boxing for 2-3 years, and have done relativly well against them, even when i tell them to please not hold back because I am new. Gotta love being 3 inches taller than everyone else your weight lol. But, I guess we'll see what happens. I'll keep ya guys updated if anyone cares.
