I'm not surprised the Jones/Hopkins fight didn't work out. The combined stubborness of those two guys is just off the charts.

Didn't see this matchup coming, the 170 weight limit would definitely seem to favor Hopkins. He had to work with a trainer to bulk up to 175 from 160. 170 might actually be a more comfortable weight for him.

I wonder how going up to 170 might affect Winky's future. I was looking at Winky as a possible opponent for the winner of Mayweather/DLH at 154. If he goes up to 170, it'd be asking a lot for him to drop 16 pounds at the age of 35. But then again, just because this fight is at 170 doesn't mean he HAS to weigh 170, he could always come in lighter.

It's an intriguing fight but obviously has the chance to be a real snoozefest. Hopkins is a deliberate slow paced fighter, and Wright does best against guys who come right at him like Mosley or Tito. Hopkins obviously won't do that.

Yeah this is one for the purists.

I actually think Winky would take this.

i've been wanting this fight for along time. i thought they were gonna make the fight happen after winky beat tito but the hopkins made some excuse as to why he didn't want to take the fight.

at this point i don't know who to pick.

    It is a toughie.
Its not like you could make a strong argument based on either fighters weaknesses.
I think the reason i like Winky in this match up is for the simple reason that he throws more and may have the better defence up close.

Why come back for a fight like this, Mr. Hopkins? Why? Oh yeah, you want to whip him in a way that Taylor couldn't. Stop comparing yourself to others and be happy with your own accomplishments.

    My Comeback Options

    1. Beat a Heavyweight like Roy Jones Jr. did

    2. Avenge my loss to Roy Jones Jr.

    3. Beat up Ronald Wright and try to show up Jermain Taylor

Hopkins versus Wright will bore the pants of the whole world . Both are glorified safety 1st merchants !

If either one had a set swinging between their legs they'd by looking for Calzaghe !!

Instead you're gonna be hoodwinked into believing this is a great match up when its not !!

There will not be any knockdowns and no drama.

I think hopkins might take this - will depend on how he is now age can catch up at any time.

i don't think hopkins is a better fighter, but 170 is way to much for some like winky and his style...

I do hope winky wins though, if he does i do see his next fight being agaisnt calzaghe at SMW... would be interesting

Why do people not think this will be a great fight? Two top 5's p4p are fighting, and we all know Winky will take the fight to Hopkins who still IMO has enough left to fight a top inside fight. I think it will one of the best fights of the year if its happening.

PS. Roy JOnes Jr. at the Trinidad fight said WInky was just as big as him walking around so I don't think size is a problem for Winky who looked strong enough to deal with Trinidad, and Taylor.

    Strength:Hopkins
    handspeed: Winky
footspeed: Hopkins at this weight I think
Offensive:At this point Winky due to he punches more
    defense: Winky
    stamina:both have great stamina
    power:Hopkins
chin: I would go with Hopkins because 1. Winky has less power 2. Hopkins has never been in a position like WInky was against Vazquez.
determination: Hopkins... Winky has often given up rounds he shoudn't have.

Sorry Junior, Calzaghe would rather fight a reality show soap opera star....

No Knockdowns Gotdam thats one hell of a revelation... I thought it was gonna be like a Tyson fight with all kinds of fury and fire................ Oh yea this fight showcases 2 of the top 5 defenseive fighters of the past 20 years.....

Is there some reason the press hasn't caught wind of this matchup?

This sounds like an appalling matchup at that weight. Utterly ludicrous, and if this is the best BHop can come up with then he should stay away. Utterly pointless. Winky is a blown up junior middleweight and 170 is way beyond what he should be fighting at.

If this is really happening then its a farce...
