I figured I'd try something a little different here. Basically, just tell everyone about yourself. No bullshit needed, just stuff like location, age, what training you've had, etc. I'll start, and look forward to the responses.
My name is Derek. I live in Norwell, Massachusetts. I'm 22 years old. I've been worked as a Security Officer at a chemical plant the last few years, but recently moved up here from NC. I now work full time for the town Highway Department as a laborer and part time at Taco Bell to increase the cash flow.
I started training when I was about 18 when I took some Boxing classes while in college. Unfortunately, I was too poor, and that didn't last more than a couple months. However, my love for the sport hasn't died. I do my best to train myself. Last year, I began training for a few months with my Lieutenant (when I was a security guard). He was a very accomplished blackbelt in Kempo Karate (the real, full contact competition stuff, not the McDojo crap) and had trained for about 4 years in BJJ, one whole year of which he spent under Helio and one other (Rorion?) Gracie.
Right now, I do my best to study study study tapes, and pass on what I know to my brother (20 yrs old, no experience outside of my teaching him). We do a lot of sparring at his house, along with other friends who know arts in one form or another, and have a bit of a fight league going on (basically, we drink, then we fight...all very professional and friendly, but very sloppy due to the liquor). I feel good doing this, because I can see his MASSIVE improvements already (even if his boxing still sucks...he doesn't look comfortable doing this, and he recently told me so, but he is improving bit by bit).
Very soon, I hope to join the South Shore Sportfighting gym and begin competing in amateur MMA bouts. I basically do everything for love of the sport. I have no hopes of being the best, but I love the sport and love competing. Win or lose (thankfully, a lot more wins than losses), I enjoy myself, and learn every time.
I don't expect everyone's to be as in depth as that, but I'm just interested in knowing a bit more about where you guys stand in everything and learning a bit more about you all. Appreciate it guys, and remember...BE HONEST. If we were that good, none of us would be perusing a boxing forum to talk about MMA.
F it....why not....here's my myspace as well:
