Winky should move up a weight and fight Joe Calzaghe at Super Middleweight.
Winky culd beat Joe on points. Joe cannot win all the time and Winky is
a good defensive fighter.![]()

Joe Calzaghe is too big and has an output that Winky cannot match....Calzaghe would decision Winky handily and maybe even stop him late on IMO....
Calzaghe to big for winky.Winky had trouble with Taylor and to move up again to SMW would be just to big a step.Calzaghe takes a UD,dont c Calzaghe stoping him Calzaghe dont stop many these days and against a very good defensive fighter i dont see him stopping Wright.

Very winnable fight for Winky. Joe has looked ordinary against ordinary opposition so many times. He did look like Superman against Lacy, but I suspect that was good night for him and a bad night for Lacy. I see Winky exposing Joe C. en route to a fairly convincing decision. And yes, I realize Winky is a blown up 154 pounder. He's just that good, and 160-168 is where he needs to be for the money fights. Unless The DeLa and or PBF stay at 154 and remain active.
Does Winky really have the ability to deal with the output, skill and of course the extra weight of someone like Joe Calzaghe?Originally Posted by Brockton Bomber
I find that to be very questionable. How would he expose Calzaghe exactly?
calzaghe would win. winky can't keep up with the pace that joe sets and i can see calzaghe stopping him. winky is good defencivley but i dont think he would have an answer to some of the shots joe would throw at him.
i cant remember the name of the fighter but there was another southpaw that dropped winky about 4 or 5 times on the way to the final bell. i can see calzaghe being way to big, strong and busy for winky.
One needs to take into account Joe's brittle hands though.Originally Posted by jbirdy
Calzaghe only has an inch in height and an inch of reach on Wright.
I would love to see this fight brilliant offense vs. brilliant defense.
For me this would be a pick'em.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Joe would win .
Too fast , too busy ,too skillfull and above all far far too strong .
I'm not trying to call you out on anything, but have you ever seen Joe fight someone with a good defense?Originally Posted by Swashbuckling Gordy

But to be fair to Swashbuckling Gordy (and it is a very fine and dandy name!) his points do outline 3 parts of why Calzaghe clearly has the edge....Originally Posted by killersheep
Have you ever seen Wright in with anyone of JC superstars strength ,skill ,speed and business ?Originally Posted by killersheep
Lets face it WW record has been built on nearly men and whilst Joe hasn't always impressed when the time came to stand up and be counted against Lacy he stormed through the breech proving beyond all question his class.
He may have trouble with Brittle hands but is has not hindered his Boxing ability and against Sakio Bika ( one dangerous motherlover ) he lacked some sharpness .
Taylor had Wright in trouble frequently and JC matches Wright in Personal stats unlike Mosely and Quartey who were coming of losses and activity .
That being said it is hard to judge rightOriginally Posted by Swashbuckling Gordy
I've never seen Winky take on anyone with Joe's abilities.
I've never seen Joe take on anyone with Winky's defense.
both are valid points.
Winky has beat Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad, Sam Solimon and Ike Quartey
Joe has beat Jeff Lacy

hate when people say joe has only beat lacy; anyone who truly watched the eubank fight would of seen for one a very green calzaghe fighting a very Exp eubank. now i will never say the same eubank turned up as the one in prime who fought benn and watson, but by christ did eubank put on a very very good performance. after the first round knock down eubank gained 5 years and fought a very good fight, calzaghe walked through ALOT of big hits, was in the ring with a very ring smart fighter and it was a hell of a win.Originally Posted by killersheep
byron mitchel was no chump, was no P4P fighter either, but to batter him in 4 rounds was no easy task, joe did that.
I love winky alot, but joe wins this in a fairly one sided UD or tko - winky has bery little to bring to this fight. his lack of power, and joes superb chin (imo) means winky wont hurt him, i dont think calzaghe has the power he used to, but fired up we have seen how he can work every second for 12 rounds, winky would be in trouble. IMo taylor would of won that fight if he wasnt so lazy and took so many breaks and i rate clazaghe higher than taylor in speed, power, jab, angles, ring smarts, inside work.
I don't know if he would stop Winky but I agree,JC has the style to beat Winky, the speed, awesomely fast hands, and power. JC looks average against average opponents,I think he is energised by the big fights. Whether anyone likes it or not,ALOT of people thought Jeff Lacy would hurt JC,would expose this "over rated " boxer, yet JC put on one of the finest boxing performances I have ever seen. He just needs to ride the momentum more, which, for whatever reason is not happening but he needs to get B Hop,JT,Winky, one of these guys in the ring and make another statement otherwise, the critics will remain. He beats all 3 imo,and I am not his biggest fan at all,I just appreciate awesome boxing skills when I see them and hehas them. That fight against Lacy was the complete boxing performance imo, showing offence AND (often forgotten by viewers) defence. He was elusive. Lacy didnt' land anything noteworthy.1006 punches? WTF!!!! 7 hit combos in round 10?!?!Awesome!Originally Posted by miles
