    Default Rafael Marquez-Israel Vazquez picks

Surprising how nobody seems to be talking about this fight. I mean there's more hype for Miranda-Green than this fight. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Miranda-Green, but the best matchup of the night is Marquez-Vazquez. Rafael's a P4P top ten fighter, moving up a weight class to face the man at 122 in Vazquez, and both guys make interesting fights.

As for the fight, I'm still leaning towards Marquez by late stoppage. I'm assuming he can handle the weight, I think Vazquez will take his shots fairly well for a while but he'll be getting hit cleanly fairly often and Marquez will start to get to him in the later rounds.

As I said in the HBO RBR thread, I agree completely--this one (not either of the HBO fights, though Miranda/Green could be good if it lasts) is by far the fight of the night. I'm also picking Marquez by late stoppage--if I had to pick a round, I'd say 9.

Cotto by early stoppage. Green by mid round stoppage. Marquez by late round stoppage.

People not talking about this fight shows the problem with boxing, far far far far too many fights over hyped and the fights which SHOULD be getting the hype don't. No one can name me ANY HBO fight last year, that was PPV or otherwise which was as potentially as exciting as this, 2 RING champs(people ALWAYS YAMMER ON AND ON about RING,now 2 champs are fighting,no one says anything), 2 guys unbeaten in ages, power punchers, good technical skills,Mexican warriors,and...fwock all from fans!INCREDIBLE...

Anyway,I'm leaning towards Israel although I like Rafa better. I think Rafa can keep him on the outside and may try to do so for a while but sooner or later,it'll turn into a war and I think Isreal wins on the inside.

Mark Johnson was landing bombs on Rafa in their fights on the inside, and if Israel lands the same amoutn of punches,I don't think RAFA will be able to survive. Also,Isreals punchs are shorter and more compact,Rafa's are slightly longer and again,on the inside, that could prove to be the winner for Vazquez. I really like both guys though, probably pound4pound top 3 in terms of most under rated.

Where does the winner go P4P? I'd say rather high!!!

Im thinking israel .. I think whoever wins it will be by stoppage..

Mainly just that vasquez is a confident fighter..Hes the champ..
Raf is great ..Love the guy.. and yes even though its a fair while back marquez has been stopped two or three times .. Three losses i know.. But it is indeed possible to stop him.. With him moving up and i think vasquez will come into the fight believing he is the champion and put on an amazing performance..

Both have said some wild stuff during pressers.. Things like i will die for this fight.. to win etc..
    Wild as it comes..
    Definately a bruisefest methinks

I think if R.Marquez wins he leaps to 4th past MAB, B-hop & JT right behind Winky.
If Israel wins IMO it's only right he takes Rafaels place in 7th.

    PBF
    PAC
    Winky
    Right here
    JT
    B-Hop
    MAB
    R.Marquez
    *Joe C.
    Hatton
    SSM

*Joe falls out of the list IMO.

    Always love reading your stuff.

Vazquez Marquez isn't the matchup of the night, it's the matchup of the year thus far.

    f*ck hbo on fight night.

People who have a choice and watch that "show" are not real boxing fans.
(Exceptions to loyal Cotto fans. )

But this fight is the real deal. Had it gave me more time to buy, I would have saved up and watched this one live.

Marquez is going to lose. Possibly knockout in brutal fashion. Isreal can take it and dish it back, I don't think Marquez can. But Marquez IS in some respectable people's top 15-20 p4p list, for good reason.

I dont have showtime is anyone doing a round by round for the fight, I am really interested in this one. I kinda lean towards Vazquez only because I've seen more of him. I wonder who is the promoter for this one, because they dropped the ball I think. The problem with boxing fans is the fact No one really pays attention to the little guys. The winner should take on Caballero next, who I think is gonna make some waves hes 5'11" as a super bantamweight!!!

I predict another war with both of them hitting the canvas. Late stoppage for Vasquez.

Late stoppages all round, past or on eight for Cotto, Marquez and Miranda IMO.
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!

It's co-promoted by both Gary Shaw (Marquez) and GBP (Vasquez) along with Sycuan Promotions....

I like you think IF they would have promoted the SHIT! out of this fight THIS fight would be one to bring more attention to the smaller guys....
The only catch was the HBO card. But still I think the effort that was put to promoting was decent but could have been should have been better IMO.

Caballero already made noise when he blew out Somsak in 3 rounds in his hometown....

Yeah this is some fantastic matchmaking. Not only two of the P4P best fighters, two of the most exciting. Rafa will have no trouble with the weight I don't think. In fact I think he could have made the jump all the way to featherweight and been fine. If anything the low weight could have been holding him back. I mean he has been way bigger then everyone he has fought, he had to have killed himself to make weight.

I see Marquez hitting the canvas but winning the fight. I think he is going to have to stay on the outside and make real short visits on the inside. He can't afford to be in there for any sort of length of time. Because that's Vazquez' shot. Not to discredit him as a fighter but I think realistically he has to win on the inside to win the fight at all.

And while I think Rafa could more then hold his own on inside, even if he is winning, Vazquez still wants him on the inside. And I like Rafa's power better from the outside too. And he's not the hardest to hit on the inside. Should be an awesome fight.
