I haven't heard anything about this. Boxrec isn't a reliable source for future fights. They tend to post fights out of pure speculation.
Toney needs to retire.
im not sure if its going to happen i just noticed it while checking when jirov was going to fight. I was hoping there was a possibility of jumping in this weekend to avenge the loss to moorer but sedrick fields took it
boxrec jumps the gun a lot so i was curious if there was anything on it.
i agree about toney and jirov doesnt belong in heavy either. but could be a good battle
i can't see the rematch being anywhere near as good as the first fight.
No, I totally agree. The first fight was one of the best fights of the that year! Both fighters have lost a lot of their skills since then. Jirov's only hope would be a KO, and if Peter couldn't do it, Jirov certainly won't be able to.Originally Posted by 'The Boxer'

Maybe it is Toney's final bow as a fighter...If Toney was serious about trying to gain ground he would have been back and active and maintaining his fitness program.
Toney is almost done it seems....
An interesting rematch, but it should be happening one division lower.
If this fight is to be believed then that September date needs to be moved up. Toney fought last in January, an 8 month lay-off makes no sense if neither one has a fight coming up.
But then again, fights in Russia are an X-factor. There are some heavy-hitters in the wallet department over there and they may have a reasoning behind the date.
Oops
Absolutely pointless, they both need to give it up. Toney probably has more left, Jirov's never looked the same after their first fight but they both need to just move on.
And it wouldn't be anywhere near the first fight. I thought Toney clearly won the first fight, Lederman gave Jirov too much credit for coming forward, but it was still a great fight, 12th round was incredible.
Jirov needs a few more big pay-days before retiring. I totally agree, he never looked the same after that fight. To his credit, he got swindled out of KO against Sloppy Joe Messi and was far ahead on the scorecards before Moorer caught him with a great punch. Jirov and Toney will fight a few more times. They're going to need the money to pay for their outlandish neurologist bills.Originally Posted by OumaFan

I thought Jirov was beating Toney until the ko. It was a great fight.
Toney has been despertly trying to get a fight with any name. He had a fight with Tony Thompson set up, but no network would by it. Now Jirave and and Toney have aggreed that they want to fight, they just need an HBO or SHowtime to buy it.
Dan Rafeals colume(the notebook) on ESPN.com/boxing is a great news source for all this negotiation information. Its amazing to see how many fights get put together, but if HBO or Showtime wont buy them, they fall apart.
Toney didn't KO Jirov, he simply knocked him down. It was a close fight, but that late knockdown was decisive in giving Toney the nod.Originally Posted by sexydarin
