Thread: Shane Mosley Vs Sugar Ray Leonard Welterweight

Shane is a good good good fighter. Saying he is a great fighter I think is a stretch and people will call me crazy on this. Beating Oscar or Vargas does not make someone great. Not in my mind. Sugar Ray Leonard fought all the best whose names I do not have to repeat, yet were sometimes called the fab 4 of the 80s. I say Ray Leonard outboxes Shane and busts up his face and the fight is stopped on cuts about round 8 or 9.. Shane cannot do anything better than Ray.

Ray by a UD, I don't see Ray stopping Mosley

I don't think Shane has the skills to deal with Sugar Ray. Leonard was too good a boxer, and more importantly, too good a technician. Additionally, I can't think of one real advantage Mosley would have in this match up. A small reach advantage, I guess, but I don't think that would be decisive. I think Ray could outbox Shane and win a comfortable decision. I don't think either has/had the power to end it decisively. Leonard by UD.

Yeah, I think SRL was awesome a welterweight. One of the best and I just don't think SSM has the "Sugar" to beat SRL.

SRL by ud Mosley was much better at Lightweight.

At welter i see it swing leonards way.
I have two reasons for this selection:
1)This for me was Leonards best weight, at 147 he seemed to achieve perfect equilibrium between, power movement and speed.
2) Welter is NOT Shanes best weight. , the perpetual movement the mesmerising speed and the dazzling footwork he had at lightweight are just no the same two divisions North.
Sugar Shane is just plain ole' Shane at Welter. Dont get me wrong, still got great speed, power is way up and all, but jus not as sweet as he was at LW.

SRL,faster,hit just as hard and just a better all round fighter than SSm.

Its been said SRL and I agree, Shane has been p4p better though.

Peopel forget how strong Ray was at welter i think he knocks Mosley out special if it was a 15 round fight.

Mosley is a good fighter. Great? I think great is used early nowadays. He has fought good guys but alot of so called great fighters nowadays have not been in great fights. Which is odd. He lost to Winky and Vernon easily. But the thing about tonight is that Mosley will control the action with speed and Cotto just is not in the class of Mosley. Cotto has good heart and all that but a guy who is always knocked down and gets up eventually stays on the canvas. And Mosley will be fast and not get in a war. Mosley but stoppage on cuts in a surprising fight where he looks good. As for Mosley/Leonard. Sugar Ray was too good for Mosley. Mosley is good for nowadays. but in the age of Leonard and Hearns I do not think he could have done that well. With Hearns his lack of power would make him a target and he would get stopped in 5 rounds and with Ray he would lose in about 8 or 9.. But tonight he will look good. This is a fight where Shane looks good. But if he fights Williams he loses a decision.

I like Shane and think he could give any fighter in history a tough fight, but SRL was on another level. 10th round KO for Ray
