tommy is going to fight mma. remember this. we'll see how complete he really is.
P.S.= Go Rampage!!!
Yes he is because he has a fight scheduled soon after and wants a warm up easily beating some fat bumOriginally Posted by Entragian
Boxers will always think its an easy step over to fight mma boys who have no technique, or defence as UFC's poster boy Liddell just embarrisingly proved.
Some dont come out to well like Botha, Mercer, Phillips but others like Butterbean and Briggs do alright and mostly they go up against the top blokes in mma, some mma boys go to boxing but against novices and poor journey men, The new Zealand or Hawian guy from k1 went pro boxing and got completely splattered by a non puncher, another well reguarded guy last year went pro but against another mma guy in his first pro bout, Mighty Mo got schooled and hurt by a journey man.
If Mercer is putting the training in for that ugly prick Kevin Ferguson (kimb slice) he will look awesome but only to non informed mma fans
MMA fans or rather fans of the big organisation ufc are really the poor cousins of the fighting world, boxers will willingly fight top ufc fighters but even top ufc fighters would never get in the ring with the likes of a Changaev, Mormeck, Bell, woods or Calzaghe
Boxers have a composure from learning there trade, being under pressure in a bout, put an mma fighter under pressure with punches and they will grab like an octupus from fear, good footwork and hand skills and these girls look laughable

I've had enough of boxing vs MMA, Boxing is only 1 aspect of MMA so boxers are obviously going to be better at boxing because its the only thing they train, so if an MMA guy gets in the ring and boxes a medium/top level guy they're going to get beat, but if a top level boxer gets in the cage he'll probably get beaten as well. It doesn't really work both ways. Would you expect Terrell Owens to hit a homer or Kobe Bryant to catch a 40 yard pass?
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!

Im not ignorant, a decent boxer will always do well against this lot, the only boxers that have tried have all been nearing the end of their careersOriginally Posted by VanChilds
A decnt boxer wouldnt let it go to the ground, as someone just wrote, the boser will win the stand up fight, well all fights start stand up and unless you are Bruce Lee quick it aint going to the ground, the boxer will ko them while they stumble around looking for a take down, ask Liddell
....I think Tommy is well past it but hell if he wins then hooray he's proven absolutely nothing.
MMA needs to be left alone by boxers....don't soil the sweet science with all this John Ruiz meets Jean Claude Van Damme hybrid fighting styles.
Having boxers fight in MMA will only give MMA more publicity which it honestly doesn't deserve
Boxing and MMA are different sports yet people like yourself always want to judge MMA striking under boxing pretenses....its not boxing...why should it look like it...there are numerous aspects to the boxing game that don't translate into MMA. The myriad of other variables in MMA completeyly alter the way you "box". If you'd ever trained in it you'd know this. The idea that a boxers punching and footwork will keep the fight standing is just plain ignorant. Every boxing match has clinches and in fighting these are the perfect times for takedowns. I'm not saying that a boxer can't learn good wrestling and takedown defense, but his boxing skill set alone will not keep a fight standing. I'm not even saying that a good boxing background wont help in both hitting and not getting hit, but its not the end all and be all of fighting. There is a reason its called MIXED martial arts. It take a complete fighter not a specialist. MMA fighters are world class atheletes to suggest that they aren't as tough as boxers and lack composure is an obvious inflammatory statement and baseless. Just b/c mercer/botha/phillips were at the tale end of their boxing career shouldn't have mattered if their punching skills were SO much better. And by the way all three of those guys fought in K1 and so did Briggs. Kickboxing not MMA. Ask Chuck what? He wasn't going for a takedown nor is Rampage a boxer...he is a mixed martial artist.
