Default Hypothetical Open Weight Gran Prix

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the athletic commisions in the US have rules that would make a OWGP impossible, if they did what 16 fighters in the world would you want in it? Here is mine

    Fedor
    Mirko
    Barnett
    Gonzaga
    Big Nog
    Couture
    Sylvia
    AA
    Monson
    Silva
    Chuck
    Shogun
    Rampage
    Sokoudju
    Kharitonov
    Vera

You have good taste, I agree with all of them for the most part. I'd take out Monson and put in Frank Mir. It would be an awesome GP.

Mir...really? Mir pre wreck was an awesome fighter, but since I just haven't seen anything special from him...A couple of guys I thought about were Hunt, Overeem, Aleks Emelianko, Coleman, Randleman, Frye, Fujita, yoshida, sapp and Thompson. None of these guys would have much of a chance getting past the second round much less winning it but are entertaining. Zuffa should put on an OWGP over a 12 month period with the finals at the always big New Years show. They could make it all international venues. First round in Rio De Janiero, 2nd round Moscow, 3rd round London and do the finals in Tokyo...I'm liking this idea more and more

Yeah I've always liked Frankie since he beat Silvia. He may be washed up but he's been showin up to his fights pretty out of shape, I think he could do better.

Coleman, Randleman and Fujita I considered too. I don't think Randleman has the tools but Fujita and Coleman could be in there too no doubt.

I like the idea over 12 months too, that way they won't have the multi-fight excuse for losing, and will have time to recover in between. The only concern I'd have is the extended time would make it harder to compete in their respected leagues. I'm sure it would be possible though if they ever went through with the effort!
