    Default Is Winky a moron?

Wait a minute, so he turned down $5 Million dollars plus upside for a great rematch with JT for the undisputed middleweight championship of the world, just because JT was gonna make more money. To take a fight with 42 year old Bernard Hopkins in which he only made $2 Million dollars plus upside? What's wrong with this picture? Winky is making bad decisions.

No hes got big brass balls. Not alot of people would have taken that fight, and he was close in the fight. He already beat Jermain if you ask me.

Clearly he has balls... But I think he definetly let his own ego lead him to making a poor business decision here... End of the day, he could have made over twice as much money to rematch Taylor without putting on any weight...Instead he moved up 10 lbs to fight Hopkins where Nard had the bigger cut of the smaller purse anyways... Doesn't make much sense to me.

I agree Albsur. I said when the fight was announced Winky was making a mistake. Hving balls is one thing but he would have got just as much credit for beating JT in a rematch and would probably have made more money. However, the biggest worry I had was the weight. Winky is not young,it's almost a 2 weight class jump for 1 dam fight and now he wants to drop all that weight. Why move up so far for one fight??! Now with JT moving to 168 after the Pavlik fight,Winky has shot himself in the foot.

Winky clearly won the last round of the Taylor fight.

I never got that line of thinking, that just because Winky "boxed" in the last round, that he lost. No, Winky didn't do that much in the twelth but what did Taylor do? Nothing, even less than Winky.

I don't get HBO's love affair with Taylor, he's fucking boring and the commentary in that fight was so ridiculously biased in favor of Taylor. A good example is the twelth. What exactly did Taylor do in that round?

Winky clearly won the last round of the Taylor fight. I can't understand how some people say "Winky didn't do anything to win the last round" - well, he sure as fuck did more than JT and thus should win the round... I couldn't believe how that fight was scored, especially the last round.
Winky's one of my favorite fighters and I'm kinda bummed out that he lost last night, but I could see it coming a mile away... too much weight to gain against too good of a fighter...

I disagree, neither did ANYTHING in the 12th. Winky came to take JT's titles,it was the championship rounds in what was a close fight and Winky is experienced. You look at all those factors plus knowing that JT gasses late, shouldn't the older more experienced guy who has been there so many times have taken the intiative.? It was a dissappointing finish from Winky.I had the last round a draw.

See I disagree. For one thing I care less about a contender having to "take the title from the champion." I don't understand that, at the end of a round I decide who boxed better and I score the round based on only that. I score title fights just the exact same way as I do any fight.

And Winky IMO clearly landed the only real punches in the twelth. He did more, although not much, but still he landed more punches. Taylor did absolutely nothing, even less than Winky. I think it was a bit dumb on Winky's part what he did, but he still landed more punches and so I gave him the round.

I 100% totally agree about scoring rounds for rounds, not for a contender taking a title from the champ but the judges score fights like that. They want to see the contender win the rounds, whereas I,like you, score the rounds as I see them fullstop.

I have not seen the fight for a long time so I'll watch it again but at least we agree,it was stuid of Wright for at least the reasons that JT gasses and he knew the judges would favour JT.

OumaFan, I couldn't agree more - I have never understood that logic. Why, in a title fight, should one man have to do more than the other to win rounds/the fight. That's just unfair, and it doesn't make sense at all... Its unique to boxing, you'd never see it in other sports... Take football (American), if the Cleveland Browns are playing the Colts (superbowl champions), should they have to win the game by more than 3 points to get the win just because the Colts are the champs? That's kind of a piss poor example, but you get the point...

Glad I'm not the only one who's never understood that. I mean its nice when you have a guy come up and "take" the title like Pacman did to Barrera (if Barrera even had a title at the time, I'm not even sure, its just an example) but I don't see how it can figure into judging.

Another case of their bias was the B-Hop Vs. Roy Jones Jr. fight....they must have gave every close round to Roy....Lederman had a shutout through 6...crazy mofo.

Think about how much money he couldve made his next fight after having B-Hop on his resume. It wasnt that stupid he almost pulled it off. Was it risky? Yes. Is he a moron? No.
