I like your attitude, the coach should have given you more protection

its your first time and of course there are a couple of first time mistakes that most people commit. the most imperative thing you need to address is not looking down every time you see a punch coming. your trainers kept saying hands up, they should have been saying head up, because having your hands up and your head down aint gonna do nothin but get you messed up. head up.

had a problem awhile back where i was getting gun shy and looking away when i was under a lot of pressure. it was a developmental thing, i turn and pull away from punches a lot, and what happened was when i sparred with the same guy every week for 2 months he figured out my timing and range and started catching me more. the more i got caught the more i pulled away and it got to the point where my pulling away was nothing more than turning and crap rolling. enter situational sparring (kind of)...i backed into a corner for 5 rounds straight one day so that i couldnt turn away. i got hit clean with a lot of right hands (probably 20-25), but the habit was broken because the corner pad wouldnt let me turn or pull back more than a certain amount. believe it or not the more i got hit the less i got scared because it kept hurting less and less. now my head movement is back to where it was before the incident, even when i do get hit.

When he hits you is when you look down. Also, this guy is very very hittable. His chin is up in the air.
It seems that he has more experience throwing punches than you do. He throws a jab-right-hook over and over again...You cross your feet when you move. Don't do that.

I'd bet if you are able to train regularly and get some sparring or partnerwork in reasonably often (maybe not always this intense) you'll be bashing Mr 7 years within 6 months.

I think he's trying to intimidate you but as greynotsold says he's very hittable and if you can make few little adjustments as intelligently mentioned above you'll be bashing him easily very soon.

Of course I'm not a coach but that's what I think. Other opinions?

I'd like to see another vid in 6 months

I'm with Sharla, looks like you want to be in the ring!

If that guy has been boxing for 7 years then pretty soon you're going to be able to say you're better than some one who's been boxing 7 years as long as you stick in, practice and think!

biggest mistakes I could see is that you only ever moved one way and you kept putting your head down, big no no! it's good to see you trying to roll shots, but remember: the knees, feet and shoulders move, not the head/spine.

Guys thanks for the comments. How do I work on my movement? Circling to the left is what feels natural to me and I can't even envision moving to my right while throwing punches.

Thanks for all the compliments, I've only been boxing for about 4 months(although I have a little experience in wrestling, which I believed has helped me with my footwork)

to the left will feel natural if you're orthodox and yeah, you don't want to move your right foot as you throw. You're not throwing all teh time though, you want to keep turning and moving your opponent which you can't do by moving one way!

Cool Click #4 , I think your doing a great job mate. I would like to see less wasted movement from you. Make the guy miss by stepping off to the side a bit, then be ready to fire and press a bit of your own.!
All that wasted movement is simply taking you way out of range and allowing you sparring mate to simply walk you down,

Instead of trying to get all that distance between you and him make him miss , onlyby an inch or so, this allows you to be able and return fire you will still be in range , this will alsokeep you fresher.

I look forward to seeing your progression, . best of luck .- LG

    Cool Click #5

FORGET 6 MONTHS, i say at least 3, and you'll be able to get some "sparring revenge" (remember, no one sould be getting beat up in the gym!!) but as before stated keep you head up at all time, but keep you chin tucked down. and be more relaxed...you'll see the punches coming better either watch the shoulders or elbows and that usually gives away what punch he will be doing...

    best of luck to you

To add, about the putting your head down
Every time your out of range, the guy peek a boo's(he drops his hands to track where you were) but you cant see that cause your heads down.
Catching him coming forward like that would mess him up

From what i can tell you blatantly think alot more then first timers and its good that you move side to side..

All the mistake you made you neednt worry about..

The finer tuning will come with time, practice and comfort in bieng in the ring..

Once you stop thinking about bieng hit and are used to it you can move on

Also stop reaching so far with the jab, your ranges arent that different, but you arent getting any on yours because your allways overextended
And when he paws with that right(and he does)a cross or hook counter would catch him dead flush
