Default Mike Tyson question, would that fly today

Been watching Mike Tyson best knockouts highlights.. some of the stuff is downright comical (in one fight, the ref gets between him and his opponent, appears to be to stop the fight, Tyson throws a punch around the ref). Anyway the guy is just an animal. In a few of his knockouts the first punch obviously has the guy getting ready to kiss the mat and Tyson is so quick he attempts to connect 2-3 more punches before that happens. I was wondering if that sort of thing would fly today. Maybe its expected at his level. Is it all gravy until either the guy goes down or the ref gets between them?

What do you mean would it fly? Will a fighter have a point deducted? Will he be fined/suspended? The answer is "It depends". It really depends on the ref and the situation.

The first situation(throwing a punch when the ref steps between fighters) should never be ok. It's hard to discipline this though, because it's hard to tell if it is an accident or intentional. The second situation, you don't stop punching until the fight is over. If a fighter is out on his feet, it's the ref's job to stop the fight.

Something similar actually happened earlier this year in the Barrera-Marquez fight. JMM was knocked down...Ref didn't rule it a knockdown, and MAB threw a punch at Marquez(who was on his knees). A point as deducted from MAB, and the knockdown was ruled a slip.

would WHAT fly? Hitting after the bell or on the break? Of course it still happens. It's a contact sport.
