Default Randy vs Fedor....who would you pick?

Alright, let me start off by saying that Fedor is the baddest mother to ever play the game. The guy has it all.

    HOWEVER...

Randy is not only always in peak condition, he is one of, if not THE, best wrestler in the game.

I HONESTLY believer that Randy could beat Fedor. Is he BETTER than Fedor? Not per se, but I think he has the tools to beat him. I don't see a striker beating Fedor. The man is just too good to keep it standing, and he beat down CC no problem, who is quite likely the best striker around. He also beat Hunt without ever even really bothering to strike with him. Randy, I would imagine, has the tools to survive against Fedor standing, although I don't believe to beat him. He hits extremely hard, but hasn't really shown true one hit KO power (a la Chuck) in my opinion. However, Fedor HAS been in bad positions plenty of times on the ground (which he obviously got himself out of and usually won quickly thereafter).

That being said, Randy probably has the best ground game in the UFC HW division as far as pure and simple effectiveness goes. He gets people down, he keeps them down, and he inflicts damage. Plus he has a simple yet very effective submission game to boot.

But what really gives it to Randy in my opinion are, yet again, the elbows that Pride fighters never had to deal with before. Fedor shows damage and cuts far too easily. If Randy could sit in guard or half guard, he could Lay n' Pray his way through the early rounds with elbows, and work for a victory against a softened Fedor in the later rounds. If he played it safe and didn't try anything too aggressive too early, I see Randy with a relatively easy decision or TKO victory by doctor's stoppage.

And don't think I'm just high on Couture right now....I have always felt he was one of the best fighters, especially in the UFC, and have picked him for every fight since his first fight with Belfort, even the two he lost to Liddel and the win over Sylvia.

Because Fedor is Fedor I'm picking Fedor.

Don't get me wrong I love Randy and am a huge Captain America fan but Fedor has way too many tools at his disposal. When you have a guy who's only weakness is 'he cuts easy', you're in for a long night. The cut gameplan doesn't work very well, I think Fedor's JJ and Judo are outstanding, and if he wanted to avoid elbows he'd find a way.

Randy has good striking too but he's never faced a striker with the whipping speed and relentlessness that Fedor has. Another thing, Fedor usually fights much larger guys than Couture and I think that will work for Fedor as well.

I think as long as Fedor fights the way he has been all his career then his chances of losing are very very small, and until he loses he'll be the #1 HW as well as the favored fighter every time.

All said and done, Randy CAN beat Fedor, but he'll need a great gameplan, will have to execute it all perfectly, and keep from getting put on his back, because Fedor can GnP extremely well.

But how shitty did he make Coleman look in their first bout, or Randleman in their bout. Both times, he was reeling, albeit in his usual calm manner. Even against Hunt (albeit due to his sheer size rather than wrestling ability.) Each time he was in VERY bad spots where the fights could have ended. They made HIM look bad until he pulled off his slick submissions. Fedor is awesome, but he seems to have trouble with powerful wrestlers. Randy is as good as wrestler as they come in MMA these days.

Fedor's SAMBO is VERY impressive, and I'd love to see how Randy's greco roman stands up against it, especially in the clinch.

Fedor is a god in the sport, but he isn't flawless.

I haven't seen enough of Fedor, but Couture is my favourite MMA fighter, the bloke is just an absolute legend!!!

I wouldn't go that far. Randy is proving to still be simply awesome.

What I want is to see him fight Chuck at HW. I'd love to see what would happen when neither guy has to make weight.

both fighters are good in executing their gameplan....However,fedor is just way too good for randy. The guy has no weakness at all.Randy wont be able to take fedor down,he is gonna take tremendous punishment to apply it.What makes fedor the best mma fighter today aside from his all around game is his mental toughness and poise during a fight. As long as fedors conditioning is tiptop ..no one cant hang with him..no one!

Randy's standup has gotten much better over the years, and his wrestling is one of the best in the game. I could see him giving Fedor a tough fight, but losing a decision. Fedor's standup isn't really that technical. Good power, fast hands but he doesn't use alot of technique. His ability to stay composed reverse a bad situation is awesome. I think Randy could get the takedown, but I doubt he could keep Fedor on the mat or stay in the dominant position.

couture is an icon big fan of him, fedor on the other hand is the beast of heavies.

couture did amazing things that its hard for us to count him out against fedor. but i think fedor will win, he wont dominate but he will win.

I use to think randy would get beaten up by fador but I have seen a few more of his fights since then and Coture has changed my mind I think his defence in the stand up will get him through and I could see him gettin and keeping ground control to win a close decision

Go and watch Randy Couture v Josh Barnett it may change your mind about Coutures ability to keep Fedor on the ground. Josh kept threatening Couture with submissions while on his back then managed to turn him and ground and pound from the top.

I'd love tosee this fight it's such a hard one to call

    Fedor Via Submission

Randys lost a few fights via submission to guys not even close to Fedors levels
Granted it was serveral years ago he still hasnt fought an elite heavyweight recently with
slick Submission skills like Fedor and an all around mma fighter in Fedor who has shown
not much if any weaknesses bar being easier to cut.

there was a time when i thought nog was unbeatable.Until the moment he fought fedor....Man! he was tossed around like a kid by the "most dangerous man on earth"..he was physically manhandled! Same with crocop,he was thought to be invincible striking wise until he fought fedor.Got rocked by fujita but quickly recoverd to choke the ironhead.Slammed by monster randleman but got up and submit him.Beat the shit out of that brazilian monster with violent punches and throwing him down to the floor.Retired bigdaddy with unanswered violent punches.I personally believe that randy knows he cant beat fedor,he just want to be in the same ring with the greatest before he retires..it would be a perfect send off party to a legend fighting a legend..win or lose.

This guy,in this article sums it up perfectly:

    http://www.strictlymma.com/site/inde...d=222&Itemid=1

Fedor has not only faced and beaten competition far superior to Randy, he has dominated it. Nogueira has been the no. 2 HW forever and his other wins are so impressive that we tend to forget that Fedor didn’t just beat him, he kicked the hell out of him. In the UFC those fights would have been 50-43 decisions. The difference between Fedor and Nogueira is equivalent to the difference between Noguiera and the no. 10 heavyweight. In no other division and at no other time in MMA history has the gap between 1 and 2 been so gaping.

Fedor is bigger, stronger, faster, more skilled, much younger and hits harder than Randy. He also fought a fighter very similar in style to Randy four months ago. Lindland is about twenty pound lighter than Couture but Matt is also a better wrestler and more skilled at submissions. Fedor submitted him in two minutes without throwing a punch.

For six years Fedor has dominated all comers. He has won four fights against men who were ranked number 2 in the division when they fought and he was never seriously threatened by any of them. In contrast Randy has fought two, arguably three top 5 fighters and two of them stopped him.

Fedor has fought elite wrestlers, submission artists and kickboxers and destroyed them all. The closest he ever came to losing was against Kevin Randleman, who dominated Randy for a couple of rounds, and that fight took 90 seconds.

What is Randy going to do that those guys couldn’t? Is he a better wrestler or takedown artist than Mark Coleman? NO. If he can get Fedor on his back is there any reason to think Fedor won’t submit Randy as easily as he did Matt Lindland? NO. If they stay standing is there any reason to think Randy will get the better of Fedor when Cro Cop couldn’t? NO.

For the record, a>b, b>c, therefore a>c doesn't really work in the MMA world. While you raise some good points, don't forget that in the Randleman and Coleman (first one) fights, Fedor was losing until he pulled the sub out of his ass. Fedor is far from invincible. He HAS been rocked, he HAS been held down, he HAS lost his back. He won't get out of it every time.

And as far as Barnett vs Randy went, Barnett is a slightly larger and ever so slightly stronger person than Fedor (note the extreme understatements there). But like I said...MMAth doesn't work....just because A did this against B, doesn't mean crap against C.
