Default 90s vs 2000s WW Round 1 Oscar De la Hoya vs Vernon Forrest

In 1999 Oscar De la Hoya was on top of the boxing world. He had victories over greats such as Chavez, Whitaker and Quartey. His record was a perfect 31-0 (25KOs). P4P one of the best of his era and WBC and linear Welterweight Champion. He had the perfect blend of speed and power.

In 2002 Vernon shocked the world as he defeated Shane Mosley in convincing fashion to capture the WBC Welterweight title. His jab and boxing skill were superb. At this time his record was a perfect 35-0 (26KOs). His style and his hight make him very hard to beat.

This is a very tough one to call. Forrest would give Oscar a lot of the same problems that Quartey caused Oscar (and I thought Quartey beat Oscar and got robbed).

But for some reason, I'm going with DLH in a close one.

I think Forrest had the tools and mental edge to beat Mosley, and ONLY Mosley. But a 90s De La Hoya would outbox him and had the power to put Forrest in a lot of Trouble. De La Hoya by Unanimous Decison.

Oscar has that one punch knockout power that mosley didn't have and also forrest was taller than mosley & knew how to fight tall, oscar & forrest are about the same height & oscar is a better boxer than shane

I pick de la hoya with a late round stoppage.

Forrest wins this fight a lot easier than most people realize.

Forrest has lost to one guy (although I've always felt that his "win," over Ike Quartey was more than questionable) and that was a young, hungry, WELTERWEIGHT, peak Mayorga. The only reason that Forrest lost, is because he decided for some reason that he was gonna brawl with Mayorga.

Had this fight taken place at welterweight after Mosley lost to Forrest, Forrest would have won. This would have been another one of the many big fights that Oscar came up short in.

most of mosley's knockouts came from lightweight and shane's knockout come from combination punching. watch oscar outboxing shane in the second fight another fight you should watch is oscar outboxing trinidad & oscar-chavez I. Oscar's boxing abilities are truly highlighted in those fights. also when oscar beat vargas it was by outboxing him and then knocking him out. Oscar has a better jab & ring generalship. Shane is a more come forward fighter
