    Default Dawson-Diaconu off

Diaconu had to pull out due to wrist injury. Damn.

    http://www.fightnews.com/

Looked like such a classic month, but then... one after another. Cross your fingers for Taylor-Pavlik.

According to fightnews they are still looking for a replacement opponet for Dawson though, but it will probably be hard to find (quality) fighters with two weeks notice. Best options judged by a quick look on the WBC ratings might be undefeated - but also untested - Chris Henry (US) or Braimah Kamoko (Ghana). Anybody knows anything about either? Other options could be proven, but beatable veterans like Silvio Branco, Peter Venancio (what he is doing as WBC #4 is completely beyond me, but thats another story) or Rico Hoye. The latter was demolished in impressive fashion by Diaconu in the eliminator for the title bid though, but then there at least should be no reason for Dawson to duck him...

In other 'rescheduling' news, I am not sure I have seen it mentioned on this site, but Odlanier Solis is no more to face Ross Purrity on friday. Instead he will go up against Marcus McGee. Also Solis is billed as the main undercard for the upcoming Gomez-McCall card (billed as "Night of the Cuban Heavyweights"), and promoter Ahmet Oener have promised a 'World Class' opponent for Solis. Mind you, that will be Solis' 5th pro-fight, roughly 6 moths after his debut. Impressive if it turns out to be true (and he then pulls it off).

After the past couple scorching months September has turned out to be the worst month of the year by far.

When an untelevised Jorge Arce fight is the big event of the week you know there ain't a lot happening

Dawson is facing Dangerous light heavyweight knockout artist Epifanio Mendoza (28-4-1, 24 KOs), from Barranquilla, Colombia, who seems to be dangerous too, even more KOS' than Diaconu!

    Thanks for the news Gamo.
I saw Epifianos last fight against Johnson a bit slow but hes very heavy handed and is very durable.

    Damn.

I was all excited about going because I have yet to go to a fight up here, but now I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Gutted. Was very excited for this one, I doubt it gets made again too unless Diaconu raises his profile some more.

    This ruined my night.

Thanks for the news and kudos to them for pulling this off with such short notice. It does however seem like a bit of a stretch to call Mendoza a light heavyweight knockout artist, when he has only 2 fights at the weight. One of which went the distance btw. He only stepped up from 160 less than a year ago. Also a quick look on boxrec shows that his first 15 ko's were in Colombia and against fighters not only with losing records, but of which 13 had never won a fight.

He is world ranked at 168 as well, which is where I have mostly heard his name metioned, but I guess he needed to jump at this chance when it materialized.

Still predict an easy night out for Dawson, but, well, it's better than not fighting at all, and given the circumstances everybody should be applauded for taking it on.

I remember when Mendoza exposed Tokunbo Olajida & he did it again with Ruben Williams, so he's definitely a live dog. I don't see it happening this time though...

That really sucks, I was looking forward to this one.

Mendoza can punch but so could Diaconu and Diaconu's a better all around fighter. I remember that Olajide fight, and then he kind of fell off the radar and then the Williams fight and I haven't heard anything about him since then either.
