Default Will Shogun Rua leave a greater legacy than Wanderlei?

I think Shogun is an amazing fighter but can he have the same impact as the Axe Murderer? Can he leave a similar or greater legacy?

i think it will be alot harder for him to leave a legacy like wand, wanderlei is a marketing dream

I'm not discounting Wand's legacy at all...great fighter and one of the best LHW's ever, but lets be honest he spent a good part of his career being fed japanese cans in Pride. If Mauricio can clean out the UFC LHW div and maybe move and fight a HW I think he can have a bigger legacy. I don't really hold the Mirko loss against Wand b/c Silva is not a legit HW and it showed when he tried to trade with Crocop. That being said the onesided beat down from Vitor, controversial decision loss to Tito(these guys aren't in the same league), loss against Arona, and KO by Henderson to me show a very talented fighter but with some real flaws. I think Shogun is a better all around fighter and has the opportunity to out shine his chute boxe partner

I totally disagree with your thinking. He lost those fights but he has beaten Henderson before, like you said, the Tito fight was contraversial(Im watching it tonight) and ok,he lost to Arona(again,he beat Arona afterwards). So he beat most of the guys he lost to and sure he has cans, but he has also beaten Sakuraba,Dan,Rampage times2,Yoshida,Mezger and he beat, Hunt too(anyone who can score a fight knows he did) etc.

Shogun is better all around but I find it hard to hold ANY of Wanderlei's losses against him because he beat the opponent either before or after and he got KTFO by a HW. (except the Belfort loss but that was AGES ago)

the thing about shogun is that he started with chute box later then silva, they call him the next generation of chute box, i think cuz the training has evolved there alot since silva started, and shogun has a more well rounded game due to this, but i dont think he will ever gain the image silva has, as he will not be able to produce KOs with stops and soccer kicks in the UFC, which leave alot more of an impression even if they arent as intense

although mostr of these american fans, whose extent of MMA knowledge is the ultimte fighter TV show dont even know silva, so if shogun is as dominant as he should be people in america will remember him as the guy who beat the guys they thought were great

His win over arona was a SD and could have gone either way, and his win over Henderson was close as well..plus Dan is a MW not a natural 205, silva should be able to beat a smaller fighter more convincingly...Yoshida and Mezger are good wins but neither is a top tier LHW...Yoshida recently lost to James Thompson I think...I'll give you the Jackson wins as very impressive along with the matter of beating Saku, but IMHO he wouldn't beat the current version of Rampage.

the thompson fight was bullshit, yoshida was fuckin him up and thompson was doing his usual incredibly slow arm punches and he got lucky and landed one and yoshida was having trouble defending from that point on, they let the fight gfo on to the point that yoshida looked close to death, but if thompson didnt get lucky he was about to get finished, that motherfucker is the luckiest bastard of all time, hes allways getting the shit kicked out of him and landing lucky shots
