Thread: Derry Matthews - What do people think about him?

OK, so I missed most of the Matthews v Marsh fight tonight, but I caught the last few rounds before Matthews stopped MArsh in the 11th, and Matthews seemed to be up to all his old tricks.

I know I churn out the same opinions in every fight, but Matthews is a dirty fighter, loving to get his head in people's faces and grinding cuts till they get much worse.

However, in recent years his wins over John Simpson and Stephen Foster were significant, and along with this evening's win over Marsh, must put him on a par with other British featherweights at the moment, although he's going the WBU route and not Commonwealth and British titles.

So what are your takes on him?

Easy there fella. The one thing that I must disagree with you on is that he easily beat Simpson. Simpson was putting up a good fight and winning a few of the rounds, but it was Matthews' dirty tactics which were clear to see. Once Simpson got cut, Matthews was putting his head in there at every opportunity to rip it open more, and he was at it again with Marsh, and it is the type of thing which doesn't endear him to neutral boxing fans.

haha i think ure talking about chavs there bilbo. i went to a private school and most of them where scousers... they arent that bad, they just get shown as being bad. Every town/place has yobs.
