Thread: Hatton mentally ruined???

Just a thought?? i dont think he will be able to come to terms with not being able to defeat Mayweather, and this was the pincle of his career and everything he has worked for in a way.. I dont think i have ever seen a fighter as mentally distraught as Hatton has been in the days after the fight..

Does he now feel that if he cant rematch Mayweather some time in the near future that he has then settled for second best?

I don't know about mentally ruined but what i do know is he should never rematch Mayweather.

t thats like Hatton saying im not good enough and i dont think he can take that..

even if he goes back down to 140 and wins beats a couple of champs he will still be asked about his fight with Mayweather..

Its simple only time will tell if Hattons head is FOOKED up.

I wouldnt go as far as to say Ricky is mentally ruined, but the fight was one which he was convinced he could win...and he didnt. He didnt just lose, he was KTFO.

I get no pleasure in saying that, but thats what happened. Hatton's confidence will have taken a knock, no doubt, and it would be the same for anyone.

I hope he can come back and stop Paulie at 140. That will be as serious a statment of intent as any. Rick will be back, hopefully as close to as good as ever.

No one can know if he's ruined mentally until his next fight. He should never set foot in the ring with another 147 pounder again.

Well as far as it ruining Hatton, who really knows? It's not like he sat down and quit. And it's not like he lost to a bum. No shame in losing to Floyd{except for running face 1st into the turnbuckle, that has to be embarassing }

His big mistake was thinking he could go from Collazo{which was a very close fight}to the best p4p fighter in the world. I think he shouldn't have gone from Collazo back down to fighting a virtual journeyman in the making in Urango, and then back up to Floyd. IMO he should have at the least rematched Collazo or tried to fight someone like Zab to at least get some feeling for what kind of speed he would be dealing with.

He doesn't want to get back in with Floyd, and I can't see Floyd wanting to fight Hatton again. It would make Floyd in alot of people's eyes look bad, and appear it's more about money than anything. Hatton needs to stay at 140, as there are some fights there that can be hard enough for him without worrying about the WW's and what he can do there{which isn't much}

If he's so upset that he questions his career, then he only has himself to blame

I hope not, I don't prefer his style and I'm not a fan of his. But one thing I've got to see on this
board is how exciting his fights can be, he seems to be a blue collar hero. I style hold him at
#1 at 140 and think he still has some miles left on him, I think the best thing for him to do
mentally is get in there with Gavin Rees and get his confidence back, then he can sort out
either Witter or PM.

so what will Ricky do if he drops back down to 140 and clears the dicvision out in a couple of fights.. ie Paulie and Witter, will he then chase another fight with Mayweather??

He seems to think its his destany to beat him in my eyes..

There's only a couple of meaningfull fights at 140, not the big fights which Hatton said he will only take now in his carrer.

Next fight will tell...
Will he become obsessed with winning train like a spartan and fight like a pitbull on speed
or
will he become disheartened train in mediocrity and lose his legacy forever...

I think I prefer the first option!

I agree to an extent. A career should follow a certain path and prepare you for the next trajectory. Hatton's hasnt. There is little coherence in the choices since Kostya. If it was leading to a specific goal ie Floyd then its hard to see any correlation in the choice of opposition. All south paws and no real warm ups to see if he could even deal with the WW division. Castillo was good but Castillo was the one stepping up. Since Kostya we witnessed the biggest waits between fights and indeed the biggest weights between fights.

Ricky was keyed up to fight Floyd, make no mistake, but has he even been geared to go 12 hard rounds for nigh on 2 years? Lots of question marks. Im a big Hatton fan, but have lots of doubts spinning around.

Like I say, I hope he bounces back and quick. But he's gotta take it seriously all the way through as he finally seemed to realise prior to preparing for Floyd.

EDIT....Of course, Hatton fought Collazo...but the point is that he didnt follow it up. Why try it without further practice against the best boxer in the world? Mayweather is a natural WW now.

Hatton will never beat Mayweather Roger Mayweather told Hatton and the boxing world how to beat his nephew and thats with a stick.

CC back Miles. And it's not only going 12 hard rounds, it's who he was getting ready to go 12 rounds with in Floyd Mayweather. I respect Hatton for making that massive leap to Floyd, but man, there is a difference between confidence and arrogance{or sanity and insanity }

This very well may damage Ricky's mindset, as he is in the twilight of his career, but he has some fights left in him and I for one hope he shines.

A rematch doesn't make sense...there are more people who have rights to call on a rematch way before Hatton does..the ending was as conclusive as any. KO in the 10th..wasn't a split desision..wasn't a robbery and it wasn't a draw. De La Hoya has more claim for a rematch than does Hatton.

You are right. A rematch is worthless in a world of boxers who fight twice yearly...if even that!!
