As most of you may know, Cotto's already got his traditional fight at MSG on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day parade (if I'm not mistaken). Now, this thought just entered my head, but it does make some sense in some ways.

Felix Trinidad faces Roy Jones junior at 170 this January. Assuming a win for Trinidad, I think it would make some sense to match up Cotto with Trinidad at a catch weight. Find out who the best of Puerto Rico really is. True, true, Felix is around 170 now and Cotto's a welter, but PBF did almost the same thing with ODLH meeting him at a higher weight.

Given, there are some barriers to the fight (weight, no championship involved, two Puerto Rican fighters slugging it out), I think the name value and the mystique of the two fighters will make sense on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade.

I know there are bigger fights out there for Cotto (Williams, Margarito, ODLH, PBF) but this fight also seems possible. This would raise Cotto's stock for his claim to be the best P4P in the world and maybe goad PBF into a match sooner rather than later.
