Default How often have the two best at that time gone against eachother?

    I am just thinking
Roy JOnes Jr. vs James Toney
    Ali-Frazier
    Leonard-Duran
Were Hagler and Leonard the two best when they fought?
    Whitaker-Chavez?
Joe Louis vs Conn or vs Ezzard Charles?
    Saddler-pep?
I know Gene TUnney was in a big one
but how many times has p4p 1 faced p4p 2?

Problem with that is how often is P4P #1 and P4P #2 ever in the same division

If Only.....Boxing sure would have a lot more mega bouts

No he wasn't. Toney was considered #2 pfp, Jones was several spots lower than that, because he hadn't been in a really big fight yet.

I can take a few minutes to search and produce rankings to prove this point, but I don't think I even need to. Toney-Jones was a huge, huge fight, but it wasn't a #1 vs. #2 PFP fight.

    Whitaker-Chavez was.

Trinidad Vs De La Hoya was close, not 1 vs 2 but I believe 3 vs 4, Chavez Vs Taylor should be up there

Ya, Oscar-Tito was close, but Roy was still #1 Pfp then.

If the question was expanded to times when two top 5 pfp guys fought each other, the list of fights would be a lot longer. 1 vs. 2 matchups are incredibly rare.

I can't say this 100% sure but my guess is the only time this is happened is when Pernell fought JCC.
