    Default Chris N

    Chris, need help..

My bulk is over, now ill be cutting soon, so i have no issues with dieting.

Ok my issue is, I havent got money for boxin until 4 weeks from now, because of financial things. Anyway, I have, a boxing stand with bag, speed ball, floor to ceiling ball(soon), skipping rope, barbell with weights up to 50kg, 2 rubber dumbell weights for cardio, cheap bench press, and a whole lot of time.

..dont get the impression im rich or spoilt, ive bought these over time with hard work and waiting for specials.

Ok Chris, because i respect your posts and find your knowledge and wisdom as gold, I would be really extremely
greatful if you could give me a training routine I could follow for the next 4 weeks, before i start boxing.

    Anyways thanks alot

    I think maybe I can help?...Try this...
You have to understand this before you understand anything: you aren't going to fight tomorrow, you don't have to be 100% in fighting shape in 4 weeks, and that this is an ongoing process. You don't want to try and do it all at once because it is too much. You do a piece at a time.
That said, and I have no clue what type of shape you are in now, start your day with 15-20 minutes of stretching. I recommend a book written by Nat Fleischer for this regimen; I followed it for years but describing it would take me days. There are others here better at than I, anyway. The whole key to this game is to be LOOSE, and this is where it starts.
I don't know your routine, your schedule, but make time to walk for an hour. At first, a real fast walk for as long as you are able will do. Start mixing in some jogging, then some running. After a little bit, a system that worked well for me was to very briskly walk 100 steps, then sprint 100 steps, then run 100 steps, and so on, mixing them up as I went. Here, you are sharpening and extending, if that is the right word, your "wind."
Push-ups are good, or variations thereof. You can, by the placement of your arms, change the part of you that you strengthen. I like to lean against a wall with my body at various angles, and press against it for as long and as hard as I can, my weight supported on my fingertips. I don't know your level of conditioning, but push-ups are a good place to start.
Sit-ups. Do sit-ups. Everybody has new ideas that work better, but sit-ups worked for Willie Pep and Rocky Marciano, they'll do just fine by you. You know the exercise where you lay on your back, prop yourself up on your elbows, then touch your toes behind your head? Neck bridges? Do all of those.
Flexibility and endurance are the keys. You can begin now, in these four weeks, to build those attributes. I wouldn't worry a bunch about punching until you have somebody to teach you the proper way, and I've always disliked skipping rope. For a few reasons: First, I look like I'm trying to kill a snake when I jump . Second, it is mindless. Boxing is a very brain involved activity and this encourages you not to think. Third, it breaks down your legs. You should not skip rope on days you either spar or run. Too much on one part of the body.

    Thanks Grey,

Well Im 211 pounds, 187cm so close to 6foot2, and my body fat percentage is around 18%. So I'm happy with my physique, im just leaning up to lose around 24 pounds, but dont worry about dieting and stuff I know what I'm doing.

Grey the thing is my trainer taught me to skip, and hes also training hector lombard, and hes also a previous gold or silver medalist. Like whether or not I have to skip, i still gotta do it cause hes the boss you know what I mean, like he knows whats best for me.

Grey I've noticed you have listed alot of cardio workout, what about high rep intensity, like doing dips for chest and triceps, or leg extentions, or pullups/chinups, or bench, but all with high rep, speed and good form?

I also forgot, I have a yoga ball and an exercise bike.

    Cheers, Grey

Hi Outlaw, I've been busy since Friday, (I became a Godfather) and will be busy for the next couple of days. Tomorrow I and the next day have exams to contend with and right now I was able to steal myself away from my books for a few minutes.

I don't think I can give you a short answer here, when I have time in few days I'll be more than happy in helping you out. Until then just think about what kind of fitness and boxing goals that you'd like aim at and we can build around that. Also be sure to check out the training ideas by greynotsoold, thomastabin, scrap, and adamgb. You can use this link to make your work much easier: http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxing_fo...?action=search

    Until then.

I think it's unfortunate you feel you have to add this here. I've spent heaps of money over the years on sport related things, equipment, memberships, chiropractic and physio appointments, travel for sport, the best shoes and gloves and headgear etc etc.

Thing is a lot of people who would say that's silly would spend money on other things I don't have. I only use free internet at uni - don't have it at home. I don't have a home phone - only a prepaid mobile. I don't have foxtel or cable or any pay TV. I don't own a big stereo system or an MP3 player. I don't own a car. I don't spend a lot of money on clothes or jewellery or hair appointments etc. I don't drink or eat out a lot.

Now how many people who would pick at you spending money on sports equipment would instead spend it on other stuff which you don't have? You shouldn't feel like you need to make excuses for owning sports equipment when you're posting stuff on a boxing forum. Anyone who would judge you for that can go jump! You just have different priorities and that's ok!

Good luck in your exams too Chris

Hahaha congrats on being a godfather. Well Im aiming for a cruiserweight size, and want to hit competition in about 6months or as soon as possible, but it will be a big pleasure when you got your stuff organised, to then help me out with a boxing routine, cheers.

CC Outlaw - I am a tight arse! Space more than money limits my home equipment set up though.

You wouldn't believe how many people have told me I'm crazy for spending money getting my knee and back treated though.

I might not be able to be active at all if I wasn't prepared to get advice to sort this stuff out though and when they say "really - you spent that much - It's just a knee!!!" I think they're nuts - I have to walk on my knees for the rest of my life!

I think a lot of this stuff can be an investment in your health and cut down medical costs and keep you able to work etc for longer anyway. Especially if you consider what you're getting carefully which it sounds like you do.

You're such a shit stirrer Von!

I guess you make all your own stuff so might get away with paying out people who buy it - still if I attempted that I just wouldn't have a good enough success rate for it to actually work out cheaper.

That sounds like a nice setup you've got.

If i can advise you at all...One thing has really worked for me-Alternate workouts.

Don't do the same work =out everyday as you get used to it.
Have a few workouts, I have three i use everyweek so it's always new and challenging AND it helps my fitness climb and quick!

i am truly blessed, i make enough that i own a car, have comp and internet cable and can eat out drink (if needed) and still buy stuff for athletic endeavors...plus i got health care so my chiro costs $10 a shot...not bad and i can go with my bad knee to one of the better ortho docs in the area...so please don't feel bad if you accumulated stuff over some time, we all do...it took a lot to get where i am and make the money i make...namely a blatant disregard for my own life and safety..and gery i must say i agree i used to jump for 21 minutes straight...thats 7 3 min rounds then run 2 miles...naturally my run sucked and my subsequent pad work was a waste of time. once your legs are shot, that's just about it, you feel 150 years old and there is no real chanec you will do aything but throw arm punches and absorb damage...it just takes to much to bother moving esp correctly...

Do you think that you suffered the wear and tear you did from the excercises or from the surfaces and footwear you used?

Oh Thomas, you just couldn't resist, could you?

Outlaw I hope you haven't lost all hope in me. I've been busy off and on these last couple of weeks, but really I just let this slip my mind. If you're still around and up for it, I should have something posted up by tomorrow as soon as I have dealt with some other loose ends.

P.S. An autopsy on the snake revealed that it died from diabetes, too much 'Sugar' being the cause of death...
    -Yep, I couldn't resist either...
