Default Hatton to fight 24th May: Vs Torres, Holt or Demetrius Hopkins

As reported in the Daily Express:

Former two-division champion Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton will return to the ring on May 24 at Eastlands in Manchester, England. The venue has set aside the date for Hatton's first fight since he was stopped by Floyd Mayweather Jr. on December 8 in Las Vegas.

No opponent has been set, but a source in the Hatton camp told the paper that WBC junior welterweight champion Junior Witter has been ruled out. Undefeated Demetrius Hopkins, WBO 140-pound champ Ricardo Torres and Kendall Holt are all possibilities for the date. It appears Hatton wants to take a fight before challenging someone like a Paulie Malignaggi for the IBF title.

The last time Hatton fought in his hometown of Manchester was back in 2005 at the MEN Arena, the night he beat Kostya Tszyu in a career defining fight. More than 22,000 came to see Hatton beat Tszyu, more than double could pack the house in Eastlands

Torres would be a decent fight. I really can't see any point in fighting either of the other two though. After fighting Floyd Mayweather in one of the biggest PPV fights ever how is he going to get up for fighting Kendall Holt?

    Its only tabloid speculation.

I would much rather hear comments from Hatton himself

I would bet on him taking Torres out of those 3 because the other two arent brawlers and I think Hatton has a better chance against a brawler.

The most exciting fight would be the one against Torres. Still, why not fight Witter? Many claim Witter is underserving or not on Hatton's level, but then why not fight him if this is the case? Sounds like Hatton's ducking Witter to me.

Ricky says he doesnt want to give Witter the money, thats why he doesnt want to fight him. That to me seems like a bad excuse if they would both make good money off the fight. Witters camp says they will give him the lions share, and the crowd in England would be big. I said right after the Floyd fight he should fight Witter to save some face , but guess he doesnt want anyhting to do with him.

Wait, so Hatton isn't fighting until May?!?! Wow. Guess he's in the process of eating whole turkeys and drinking milkshakes right now. His team needs to talk some sense into him. He's gonna be so drained coming down from 145 to 140 after all this alleged partying he's been doing. Hatton will be the next Vargas.

CC for you No Contest. Right now, Hatton's best financial bet is indeed Witter, considering they are both English and the amount of fans that turn out for his fights. No other fight at that weight can make him the money a Witter fight will make him, unless he fights Manny Pacquiao or stays at 147 and risk his life against Cotto or de la Hoya.

I with you guys, a Witter fight makes the most sense IMO, Witter is currently ranked #1 contender to Hatton's championship by Ring magazine so IMO it's the best fight that can be made at 140. It's the fight Hatton should be taking to try & re-establish himself!

That used to be me but Witter has clearly gone from strength to strength and is completey deserving of the fight now imo....not only that but it would be a bloody interesting fight.

Hatton does'nt seem the ducking type to me but the whole situation does seem a bit iffy

I would look forward to seeing a Hatton vs. Torres or Holt fight.

A fight with Demetrius Hopkins would be utter trash. Hopkins has done NOTHING to be lined up for a big fight except for being on the winning side of one of the worst robberies of all time (Steve Forbes)

Make D-Hop rematch with Forbes first.

Unfortunately, I think that a Hatton vs. Hopkins is the most likely of the 3 being that Hopkins is affiliated with GBP and out of the 3, D-Hop would get him the most $$$ because of the financial strength of Golden Boy.

Hatton made a ton of money with Mayweather, and now I gotta feeling that's what he's gonna be looking for the most with his next opponents (nothing wrong with that, imo)

I wish Hatton would fight Witter too, but he probably wants an easier comeback fight after being TKO'd by PBF. If Hatton stays at 140 he's got to fight Witter soon though, he's probably the biggest threat at 140.
I'd rather see Hatton - Forbes than Hatton - Hopkins.

Torres is one of the most dangerous and underrated Jr Welterweight's at the moment. I could see Torres dropping Hatton and maybe even stopping him if Hatton gets careless. Torres can really bang i wouldn't take that fight right after a bad loss.
