Default Has There Ever Been Such A High Demand?

Seriously guys. Has there ever a higher demand for a fight than Cotto vs floyd?

You can check any boxing site and all you hear is how this fight needs to be made. There isnt a bigger fight in any weight class and to say there the money won't be there is just crazy.

Everyone would buy this fight and these guys are both still in their prime so we would actually see a real fight and there would be no built in excuses due to long layoffs or previous fights had taken their toll, etc........

This needs to happen and it needs to happen now. If floyd takes another fight, it's an absolute joke and he would be making a mockery of the p4p label.

I thought Calzaghe/Kessler among fight enthusiasts was a fight that HAD to be made.

I think there was massive demand for PBF v Hatton.
As Boozeboxer said Joe C v Kessler had huge demand.
When Pavlik KTFO Miranda there was huge demand for him to fight Taylor.
Hopkins v Joe C has huge demand also.

Sure, there have been tons of fights over the years with more demand than Floyd-Cotto.

    Ali-Frazier
    Leonard-Hagler
    Leonard-Hearns
    Tyson-Holyfield

I could list a ton more if I thought about it. Floyd-Cotto is the most anticipated fight right now, but that's it. From a historical perspective, it's not in that high of a demand.

The only reason this is not as high a demand as fights mentioned above, is the lack of mainstream media coverage but there is no doubt that this fight, is a fight boxing fans want to see. Floyd already robbed the fans by not fighting Tony Margarito. Will he rob the fans again by fighting more midgets or old rich cross dressers? LOL I hope not.

Don't forget Mosely was older than Oscar and Judah is, in the words of Mike Tyson, an 'infantile retard' lol so your boy isn't much better
But regardless you are right that this fight needs to be made and the longer Floyd puts it off the more chance Cotto has of a huge upset..He needs to take this fight this year or at the latest, early next year.

It needs to happen. I'd take Floyd to win but on this board both have support so it would be very intersting to see. But don't hold your breath.

BTW, there are alot more people in the world now than there were then.

If I'm wrong, then tell me which of the fights I listed had less demand than Floyd-Cotto.

As I said, Floyd-Cotto is the most in-demand fight AT THE MOMENT, but if you're saying that it's the most anticipated fight ever, then you're out of your mind. The majority of the American public doesn't even know who Miguel Cotto is.

Lets give Bx330NY a break. We all really want to see this fight and although historically it will never live to those of the past, (cultural reasons if anything else)......we can all relate to the enthusiasm.

He started a thread asking if there had ever been a fight with this much demand. All I see here are people giving him honest answers to the question he posed. I don't see how people are giving him an unfairly hard time. He asked a question... people gave their honest answers.

Floyd and Cotto are probably my two favorite fighters in the sport right now. I've said a ton of times I want to see this fight more than anything else in 2008. But from a historical perspective, it's just not on the same level of anticipation as other fights from the past. That's just the truth.

Oscar De La Hoya will tell you that it's hard to pass up 15 million dollor pay checks, Floyd is finally in the mainstream and his last two fight he has made the mega money that he has looked for throughout his career, you guy's must be crazy if you think he will pass up another big money fight, the guy said it on 24/7 " Hey if the money's right anything can happen", expect Floyd to take another big check from Cotto

    I think Floyd's quasi-retirement is actually a good plan.

You can make cases for Floyd to fight Miguel Cotto AND Paul Williams and both have good cases though Miguel has the best right now.

If Floyd was to go in right away and fight Cotto and win or lose he would probably end up having to fight Paul Williams eventually.

If Floyd waits Miguel Cotto and Paul Williams will probably fight each other and more than likely that fight will #1 leave one victor and therefore one reasonable opponent for Floyd to face and #2 Take a lot out of both fighters as their styles match up for an all out war.

That being the case the loser might fancy a move up to 154 especially if it's Williams and Floyd Mayweather Jr. would then only HAVE to fight one guy if he returned because we all know he's not going to fight any higher than 154 unless he's fighting De la Hoya again.
