Default What Courage From Pernell Whitaker In The Felix Trindad Fight.

Whitaker didn't have his defensive skills anymore so he stood toe to toe with Tito. And even wobbled him in the 7th and i think Whitaker's knockdown of Tito should of been called in the 7th, then the lethal uppercuts from Tito in the 8th round were devastating and Whitaker somehow took them. Im Whitaker fan so i don't like Whitaker losing obviously but i enjoy this fight simply because of the courage Whitaker shows he truly is a legend.

He also fought the last half of the fight with a broken jaw.

If you look at Trinidad's prime, only 4 guys made it the distance against him: Hopkins, Oscar, Reid, and Pernell.

Hopkins and Oscar both turned in great defensive performances. They had their speed and skills, so they were able to avoid getting hit with Tito's big punches for the 12 rounds.

Reid was knocked down 4 or 5 times, and the fight really should have been stopped before the final round.

Pernell ate Tito's biggest shots flush for 12 rounds, he let Tito land half his punches, and yet he only went down once, in the 2nd round on a flash knockdown.

And if you look at the punch stats they wern't one sided at all if i remember right Tito only landed about 30 more punches than Whitaker. Even though Whitaker did lose majority of the rounds he made the rounds tough for Trinidad. And Whitaker must of had a broken rib or something because he was virtually doubling over from Tito's body shots i still don't know how Whitaker took them shots. In fact even though Whitaker lost i think his fight with Tito adds to his greatness IMO.

It does, because it proved he had a great chin. During his prime, he never got hit with any punches, so no one knew if he could really take a punch. This proved that he could. He ate punches for 12 rounds from a guy who at the time was arguably the most devestating puncher in the sport.

I wouldn't consider that knockdown a "flash" knockdown. Tito landed flush and with enough power to put Whitaker on his butt. Whitaker did not slip nor was he out of position. I will admit, however, that Whitaker was not really hurt, but still, it was not a "flash," unless I do not understand the definition of the term.

It doesn't have to be a slip to be a flash knockdown.

To me, a flash knockdown is when a guy gets knocked down by one punch, but is not hurt in anyway and therefore is able to get up immediately.

Tito landed a straight right that knocked Pernell straight back on his butt, but Pernell wasn't hurt at all. It was just a fast right hand that surprised him and knocked him off balance and to the canvas.

Tito did badly wobble him later in the fight with uppercuts, but Pernell managed to stay on his feet.
