I mean the guy has a string of top wins at the weight, how good do you think he was there? How would he fare v the other legendary 135 pounders?

I rate him very highly , and againest anyone he would give his all.
As for alltime great status i think hes a bit short of it.
I think you right on. He would give almost anyone problems at that weight, but not always be on the winning side against some of the ATGs. I agree that he is a c%nt hair short of being an ATG but he is a damn good fighter who is very well rounded and a great body puncher. Also one of the greatest left hooks of the last 15 years imo.Originally Posted by Dark Lord Al

Yeah, good points bro,I totally agree. Stylistically,I think he can give anyone at 135 a tough fight, whether they were great boxers(because of his good body work and ducking and weaving), whether they were KO artists(because of his chin and determination) and any other style too. He could adapt.I wish he had fought Freitas, that would have been a good fight!Originally Posted by BoomBoom
I rate Castillo quite high he had some good victories over.Originally Posted by El Gamo

The only problem is that he didn't reign long at Lightweight i mean he won the title off Stevie Johnston. And he only made 3 title defenses counting the draw against Johnston in the rematch, then he lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr x2. He then won a vacant title off Juan Lazcano and again he only made 2 defenses and lost the title to Corrales, he beat Corrales again in the rematch but it wasn't for the title. It just depends on the way you look at it his reign as champion was very short, but even though his reign was short he still beat some good names in the process.
As for Castillo against some of the other legendary Lightweights.
Jose Luis Castillo vs Roberto Duran = Duran by UD.
Jose Luis Castillo vs Julio Cesar Chavez = Chavez by UD
Jose Luis Castillo vs Shane Mosley = Mosley by UD.
Jose Luis Castillo vs Ken Buchanan = Castillo by SD.
Jose Luis Castillo vs Pernell Whitaker = Whitaker by UD.
I threw a few names into the hat thats how i see it anyway.
Castillo was a good fighter, not a great fighter, and not a HOFer in my opinion. He would lose to any HOF-level lighweight, although he would certainly give his best effort and make it a tough fight.
Just short of greatness. Will always be remembered though for his epic bouts.
