Default Winky Wrights track record.......second to none.

The last seven fights from recent to oldest:

    1. Hopkins------Close fight but he was weight divisions to high
    2. Quartey------A smaller Quartey was defeated....however Ike has one of the best jabs out there.
    3. Taylor----Draw and hometown ?
    4. Soliman---A solid 'give me' fight.
    5. trinidad---one of the most one sided tactical displays ever.
    6. Mosely
    7. Mosely------enough said.

    In addition he fought Vargas.
    McKart x3
    Frazier
    Rob Frazier

Almost all of his fights have been in someone else's back yard. I know everyone thinks he sucks but with a record like that how are you going to not pay respect?

Clarification: Strength of opposition. Not necessarily track record.

    yep Winky's record is stellar.

What is ironic is that a year or so ago he was the fighter everybody loved, the hardcore fan's fighter, everybody on here raved about him and he was respected by all.

Even more ironically but I guess rather predictably for me I used to make posts about how he was the most overratted fighter on Saddo's.

This marks my third complete about turn now from becoming an MMA fan, to watching the little guys fight, to now defending Winky as one of the world's best. :P

Iv always struggled to like Winky but stylistically, he was hell for ANYONE.

After the Taylor fight i was almost sold on him but i still cant understand why he decided to fight at 170 at the point when he was on the cusp of real success?

What a mistake that has proven to be.

Always liked Winky. Real treat watching him over here a few years back beating up Dodson and Foster, different league.

Been slightly disappointed with Wrights decision's lately but i still like him as a fighter. He fights anyone out there and he was one of the most avoided fighters at one time, with one of the best defense's of our modern era. And you also forgot to mention Harry Simon Winky fought him in South Africa.

i like winky and think he's solid and a tough guy but let be real if he were pound for pound the top guy...those fighters he faced would be looked at more like this

hopkins- lost to an old out of shape bhop
quartey- another small guy making a brief comebck
taylor - get little credit for giving the bigger man a draw
soliman- a workhorse that gave him hell
trinidad- the naturally smaller man coming off a long lay off
    mosley- ditto
mosley- the smaller man he should have beaten

what a difference not being champ or p4p number one makes as far as how your competition is viewed...

Well lets be fair, Hopkins was and still is one tough nut to crack and like was said before it was such a big mistake to go up and face him. Even though I do remember very clearly that Wright was the favorite here at Saddo.

The fight with Taylor was actually a real good fight and a good performance by both. I feel Winky should've pressed on at the end and he would've gotten the win. And again, lets be fair, Taylor is a hell of a fighter who just had wicked opposition during his short reign.

As for the rest, names on a list can be decieving, those guys were either semi inactive (Quartey and Trinidad), or coming out of loosing streaks (Mosley)

I do give great respect for Wright and I know he is one of those fighters that nothing was given to him, he had to take it. But I also don't think he should be rated any higher than other modern era 2 time, one division champions.

No Winky did not beat Taylor it was a draw, very close fight that could of gone either way. And Winky is nowhere near being one of the best P4P fighters at the moment, he isn't even top 10 P4P fighter.

    I'm with ya booze, cc.
As strange as it sounds the Wright-Trinidad fight is what got me into boxing, the technical brilliance Winky showed in that fight was awsome. He's been my favorite fighter since that point. There's no doubt in my mind that fighting B-Hop at 170 was a big mistake though, even if he had won the find he was still going to have to cut weight for his next fight and at his age that could have serious consequences.

I would still have him in the top 10 P4P list, he only lost (competitively) to B-Hop, who is easily in the top 5 P4P. But those are so subjective and I'm obviously biased. I also felt he was robbed against Taylor (again, I'm biased), but I couldn't believe he didn't press the action in the last round. I still shake my head about that.

Winky always had that tight defense that was almost as effective while he was moving forward.Pretty unique and not what you think of In the traditional Definition of defense.Sort of a victim early on of his abilitys as far as Media and not afraid to travel overseas.
Throw in solid all around workman Keith Mullings and although it was a loss against Julio C. Vasquez,In France,to me,that fight was not a blow out in round scoring, but on points. He was dropped about 5 times ( 4 legit) But Wright held his own in the No KD rounds.Stood toe to toe (not smart) I gave him rounds 1,3,4,5 8 & 10.
Could still mop up 154 If he would maintain weight.
