So he had his little soapbox last night and was talking trash about numerous heavyweights (none of which I think he has a chance in hell of beating) and this got me thinking...Should Mesi fight anymore? If not he should quit, if he should he should stop fucking around with D- competition and try to beat someone worth a damn!

I see him MAYBE fighting Holyfield...I don't think he would fight Morrison although there is a chance that COULD happen. Other than those two I don't see him fighting much less beating any top competition....I think Holyfield and Morrison could still beat him.


Well on Friday Night Fights Mesi called out: Wladimir Klitschko, Hasim Rahman, and Lamon Brewster.....how do you see those fights

Even the people that think Wladimir is boring would enjoy seeing him pummel Joe Mesi!

Its so questionable what Rahman or Brewster have left (not to mention what Mesi has left) that they're hard to predict. I'd favor Rahman, probably both guys actually although Brewster looked toast last time out. I think he's pretty much through.

And I don't know about the last part especially after the Sultan fight. I kind of defended Wlad even though I don't like him by talking about the whole styles make fights thing but seeing the highlights again last night and seeing Wlad reach all the way out to smack Sultan's hand down, when he wasn't even feigning an attempt at jabbing was annoying to say the least. I mean its one thing when Sultan was kind of pushing the left hand out like he was gonna jab but when he was just holding it by his hip, not doing anything with it, come on.

Yes I have seen how bad Morrison is lately....he could still beat Joe Mesi who IN HIS PRIME got knocked down by the likes of MONTE BARRETT, a fight he BARELY won.

Rahman and Brewster have enough left to beat a guy who's not good enough to be a sparring partner for most fighters.

Sultan used a defensive style waiting for the one chance to throw a counter.....Wladimir has the exact same KO percentage that Mike Tyson has...so the Sultan fight is the exception not the rule. Joe Mesi has NEVER been hard to hit or swell up or knock down, that being said Wlad would crush him.....do you think Joe Mesi could take that right cross


Joe Mesi wouldn't win vs any of the top 20 heavyweights

I am not one to dismiss fighters or just discount there abilities.......BUT I think Mesi might get hurt.He has little to no defense even prior to the Injuries.His Heavy hands also come with "heavy" flat feet .He has huge heart but Barrett and Jirov had him wrecked at end ( no,they were not all from Behind the head shots).Destruction of Williamson was real nice but "Touch of sleep" has a whisper of a chin at times.
Bout with Terry Smith gives him a spotlight April 4th to get It all going....Also said Smith was A good sparring partner and they know each other well.Might have said more there than he realized.He Is a nice,Intelligent guy who could make a living outside the ropes with no problems.Theres been far to many Ring tragedys we did not see coming at all,Here we have had a heads up going in.Hope not.

I think Mesi was in the class of Brock. Good but not great, could have won a title, maybe still could. He doesn't have a chance against Wlad. Rahman is so up and down he's got a shot but who cares? Brewster could go either way but he's still very dangerous.

Mesi has some solid skills but he missed his prime years with his injury and now he's already peaked. With some good promoting though he could still win a title. Look at Rahman, and Maskaev. Hell, take Briggs for an example. He can beat a handful of D competition, one decent B fighter, and you're inline for a title. And other than Wlad, the belt holders are beatable by most decent heavies. Mesi vs Chagaev, Maskaev, or Sultan would be good competitive fights that are winnable.


Please don't mention Holyfield, I am just really hoping he will hang them up. One of my favorites and I hate seeing him lose. But then again I think he has about a dozen kids for child support. But he's got to be able to get some endorsements and make $100k a year. Someone has to tell him that the less you make, the lower your child support payments are, it's % based buddy. That's it!!!! We can get this news to him and maybe he'll retire!!!

Any new blood in the heavyweight division (or in his case, reborn) is welcome by me. He has an exciting style and I think could give some of them decent fights.

I am not sure how severe his brain injury was, but he spoke so well last night you would never knew he suffered one. Even severe concussions cause some brain damage and quite often small brain bleeds and bruising.

I think if he is at the point where medical experts say it is as safe for him to fight as anyone else, let him go for it and lets see what he can do.

That's the thing Spicoli, Mesi could do a lot of things, even something with boxing, announcer or something. Or who knows maybe he really is popular enough in Buffalo to be a politician. But he keeps on doing something where he could get badly hurt. Can't tell the guy what to do, he's gonna just keep on.

I think Brock is better because he actually has some defense and is awkward to fight....Mesi is just there to be hit.

Joe Mesi would have been a good solid fighter but his stamina really gave him problems late in fights...Barrett and Jirov won the last rounds vs him.

Rahman would have been able to hit him if Rock let his hands go....and we all know Brewster can take punishment and still win a fight.


Mesi doesn't need to look past his next fight unless they have a deal in place which I doubt is the case....sparring partners aren't usually good matches because they know what you do.

Hes smart enough to set his vision on the future (Run for office) .I have never sinse day one,thought he would make it at the top but no one can question his stubborn desire.IMO,It won't be a top guy to spark him,It will be one of the hand picked guys brought in who can box a little and spin Mesi Into right hands.I was thinking about Mesi Last week as I watched Oscar Larios In his Comeback fight from Mexico with an apparent so-so guy who gave Larios a real battle.

There's plenty of talent out there it's just a matter of them training propperly and fighting each other.

I noticed Mesi talks very well. He doesn't slur his words. He should quit while he's ahead.

I agree about the stamina. But I also think he completely dominated Barrett and Jirov until he started running out of gas. I don't know if it was poor stamina or inexperience and headlining HBO being the next big heavyweight. You know the nerves and trying to hard tend to gas people out.

Marrone is being groomed and is still way too green for Mesi. Mollo and Golota would be interesting. Especially Golota cause you never know which one will show up. Mollo needs to move down to Cruiser cause he's too small. But I would like to see Mesi take on Brock. Brock looked a little uninterested in his last fight so I don't know how he'd show up. But that would be his best matchup for me and truly should determine if he needs to hang them up or make that sprint for the weakest belt holder.

I don't recall Mesi's last oppenent's name but after that fight he didn't seem too cocky actually he seemed very humble.He more or less stated that he was undefeated and wanted a shot at the upper echeleon <------ (spelling check) of fighters.Last night he sounded like he was unbeatable and without a big name opponent.That just isn't so I've heard in the past he would have gotten a shot at Rahman but he turned it down too fight Jirov,also a James Toney fight but turned that down.I say F&*K you Joe either shit or get off the pot, your like what 35 years old and 40 and 0 now and still without a top ten oppenent.

My take on this,and no I'm not completely nuts(maybe just a little):
Mesi is a chinless hype job with good power and nothing else. IMO, he is among several other American fighters who were marketed so brilliantly that we were mesmerized by them.
Joe has the problem we all know of and it will not get better. For his own health,he needs to leave the game and pursue his politcal hopes.
Mesi,like mentioned in this thread already has stamina issues too.

Every fighter takes gambles with his health every time he steps in the ring. So many fights on undecards and club shows are mismatches where fighters do get hurt. The commisions in some states do nothing, but they are only partially to blame. The fighter and his camp are responsible for their own actions so if they sign on to a fight, whatever the result they made the choice to get in the ring. Mesi should contintinue to fight if thats what he wants to do and hes willing to take the risk at the expence of his health and his loved ones. Its a potentially selfish risk if he has a family, but thats entirely his call.
