    Default Protein tip

Someone told me that when I drink my protein shake after a workout (I use WHEY protein), to add a spoon full of sugar to help get my insulin up so my body would absorb more of the protein. Well, I tried this last night, and it seems to work pretty great. My muscles still seem a bit pumped up now!

Your body will absorb all of the protein (provided you don;t take a stupid amount) after training because your muscles are in such a distressed state.

The muscle pump you're experiencing now isn't from the sugar or the protein. It's simply the sign of a good workout. It may also be the placebo effect because of what your mate told you.

He is on the right lines but you need a heck of a lot more than a spoonful.

You should be looking to have between 40-60 grams of simple carbs, along with your protein shake..... depending on your size.

A high glucose drink or a couple of bananas will do the trick, along with your shake. Drop the sugar.

The simple carbs shuttle the protein to your muscles and they are also used to replenish glycogen cells which will be practically empty after an intense workout.

I normally have orange juice/apple juice and a banana with mine.

Thanks. Right now I have a bottle of the chocolate protein, so I will try cutting up a banana with it. (Should taste very good).
