Smile Why were some disappointed with the film Rocky Balboa?

When it was released at the cinemas I went to see Rocky Balboa and I enjoyed and was moved to tears when the training montage came on, but in recent months I've spoken to a few people who really thought it was rubbish and I've been trying to figure out why.

I would love to get some boxing fans opinions on the film and try to shed some light on why to some it was a disappointment, so what do you think?

I think the movie was just fine. I would think otherwise if the movie finished with Rocky beating the crap out of the other opponent and being a total champ once again. It was realistic to see him go back to the ring and simply not be the same. Put a good fight but loose it. I liked it.

Rocky Balboa (IMO known as Rocky VI), was a lot like Rocky I and Rocky II. In those 2 films, not a whole lot goes on action-wise until later on in the movie. It just tells us a lot about the character and what all's going on. In Rockys, III, IV, and V, though, there's a pretty good bit going on throughout the entire movie. And I guess people were expecting VI to be that way too.

I thought it was great. It was sad though how Rocky's wife Adrian had passed away.

    I enjoyed the film...BUT

The answer you're looking for is that he gave that tit a starring role. I wish Rocky had beaten Tarver, and then afterwards have Tarver acuse Paulie of spiking his water.

Well, I have to say I liked it.

The problem was upon rewatching it; it was too short.
The film, was pretty good in what it showed, but just didn't show enough. The fact is many of us wanted it to be great, not good, so many were disappointed.

Also, I think the actual boxing content was too little and flawed. Stallone added too much muscle for an old guy and was too competitive. I would have thought a better ending was to aspire to go the distance, like he did with Creed in the first.

I also went to the movies to see this and thought it was good.Just some scenes were a little hard to listen to if think about it.When Rocky and Paulie are going to all the old places him and Adrian went to.The acting just wasn't good in those scenes. But it did make up for it in the training and fight in the end.

Yeah I liked it for the same reasons, good film.

The film was a HUGE success for me. No matter what criticisms you have after the fact, before the fact, this was an impending disaster. Rocky 5 was awful and now Sly was 105 years old. Then we find out that the opponents name is Mason Dixon. That was enough for most.

I liked the novelty of it but expected it to be painstakingly bad and cheesy. That's how everyone felt, it was very widely poked at, and it turned out to be good.

Look at expectations before the movie and no one expected it to be good. Then it was very good.

It was a decent film. Much better than the recent few and a return to more of a character driven style of the first two. I also think it was somewhat brief and could have been padded out with a little more depth but it could have been a lot worse.

Completely agree, Stallones attempted comeback as a box office star and the revival of the Rocky and later the Rambo series looked on paper to be even more futile than Evander's 5th title quest.

Against all the odds he made them not just respectable but decent.

    And Rambo was just badass

Ah I thought it was pretty good. I really liked the fight between balboa and dixon aswell, Dixon breaks his hand so can't really fight properly and what not. The build up to rocky wanting to fight again...

But what hapened to his brain tumour?...They just wrote that out.I mean we all thought rocky 5 was shit but we were obviusly going to remember Balboa had a dangerous brain tumour that would clearly kill him if he started taking punches to the brain again.

I liked it i knew it was going to be totally unbelievable with the fight scenes and etc, and i wern't expecting it to be good i was expecting another cheesy Rocky film but it was actually pretty good, not great but still good. I like how they brought back a few old characters as well so it gave you that old nostalgia feeling of the other older Rocky films, i also liked how they brought in HBO to give it more realism. Even though the fight scene was cheesy as hell and etc. It was still good and it ended the Rocky saga in a good way and thats what it deserved unlike Rocky 5. The only thing i don't like about Rocky is the lazy writing, Rocky was supposed to have a bad eye in the 2nd Rocky film or something ?? and when Micky tested him he couldn't even see the old man's slap coming, now in Rocky 3 when he takes a brutal beating from Lang, and in 4 when he takes inhuman punishment from Drago etc, you never ever hear anything about that again, its almost like the 2nd film didn't exist. But overall i still like all the Rocky's.

I hear that about the eye,but he did turn orthodox and not southpaw which supposedly protected his bad eye.I am ashamed I actually said that.Well anyway good stuff.
