Default Forrest/Mora & Quintana/Williams to be at Mohegan Sun June 7th

    Tuesday April 8, 2008 2:39 PM PST
FORREST-MORA AND QUINTANA-WILLIAMS II SET FOR JUNE 7 AT MOHEGAN SUN
    For Immediate release
Saturday, June 7 -- SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING

World Championship Doubleheader, June 7 at 9:00 pm ET/PT
WBC Super Welterweight Championship: Vernon Forrest vs. Sergio Mora
WBO Welterweight Championship: Carlos Quintana vs. Paul Williams II
From Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

Forrest will defend his WBC super welterweight title against Mora and Quintana will look to defend his newly acquired WBO welterweight belt against the boxer he dethroned, the previously unbeaten Williams. The event, will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and Fight Nite, LLC, in association with Tournament of Contenders, LLC, DiBella Entertainment and Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with Northeast Promotions. It will emanate from Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

In his last start, Forrest (40-2, 29 KOs), of Atlanta, Ga., continued his rebirth atop the 154-pound division when he successfully defended the WBC belt against Michele Piccirillo with an 11th round TKO on SHOWTIME on Dec. 1, 2007. Forrest, a former three-time welterweight champion, won the vacant crown with a 12-round unanimous decision over Carlos Baldomir on July 28, 2007.

Mora (20-0-1, 5 KOs), of Los Angeles, Calif., won The Contender television series on Oct. 15, 2005 with an entertaining and hard-fought split decision over Peter Manfredo, Jr. The fight with Forrest is exactly what Mora has been aiming for and should prove to be his toughest challenge to date.

The Quintana-Williams bout is a rematch of a WBO welterweight title fight that Quintana won in a shocking upset on Feb. 9, 2008. Williams, who came into the fight confident -- perhaps looking past Quintana, an 8-1 underdog -- lost a 12-round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112 twice and 115-113.

Quintana, of Puerto Rico, is 25-1 with 19 knockouts. The only blemish on his record came in a hard-fought bout to Miguel Cotto for the WBA welterweight title on Dec. 2, 2006 on SHOWTIME.

Williams (33-1, 24 KOs), of Augusta, Ga, captured the belt with a close decision over Antonio Margarito, who had made seven successful defenses, on July 14, 2007.

So is Quintana-Williams 2 actually set? I thought there was a money dispute?

Good heads up Diane.I think Forrest Via Brutalization and Mora go's back to slinging Fries at Hardee's. Quintana should be able to duplicate Against Williams.Prior to last fight I thought there were many questions still around Williams....regardless of narrow win over Margarito.I think Quintana can again keep him off kilter with In & out Movement and Tight discipline.I honestly think Williams is killing himself making Welter.

Well I'm assuming that they must have settled things, otherwise I don't think that they would have made an official announcement. I guess we will find out more soon.

I tried to rep you back, but I have to spread some around first.

Well I'm not sure whos posting the news whether it's Showtime, Mohegan Casino, fightnews or the promoter?

I know networks, and the venues also fightnews don't mind doing this even if the fights are not set in stone yet as it will create a buzz.

I'm sure if the fight hasn't been signed we'll hear from Quintana soon.

Forrest will destroy Mora and Quintana will beat Williams again i think. I really think Williams needs to move up in weight he is much too skinny at Welterweight.

The Showtimes TV channel began the promotion of this fight that isn't even signed , the Promoters Goossen and DiBella is pushing Quintana to accept the offer and Quintana is very dislike with this situation......
Goossen say " We need that Quintana understand that this is the good time for biggin and enter again to the scenery to make more money "......

Then Goossen express: " I'm confident that Quintana will be convince that returning to the Ring against Williams is the better for his career "......
Quintana supposedly received $120,000 for fight with Williams and the contract with DiBella specify that he should receive as minimum $300,000 for fight......

GUYS , I CALLING THIS A BIG TOSTONnnnnnn....
You cant decide in who believe man......

Nothing is set in stone yet...they do not even have a confirmed venue...just talks is all...though more then likely it will all go as planned so far but I believe it is the Quintana/Williams bout not being for certain....Forrest/Mora is a go...If Mora does not back out...seems terrified of a title shot?...IMO he is afraid once he gets a sound beating in the ring his Contender fame will vanish...he holds on to it like it is his lifeline

Right on Daxx, there is no doubt the promoters and the network are pushing for this and pressuring Quintana for the fight.
I hope Quintana is smart enough to know what to do or at least his people handle this the best way possible for him.

    Daxxx,

Really good point. I don't know if they're pressuring him, I don't know if the contracts are signed... All i know is if it takes place on 6/7, I am THERE...

I was at Mohegan for the PBF/Hatton PPV, and it was completely packed!! What a great time!

IMO Carlos is a pretty smart guy..He knows what to and not to do...But then again we all know how things can be behind scenes when it comes to the wheeling and dealing...all is based on who has the most pull...If he was smart he would have signed a gimme ASAP....this way his card was full for a bit...Williams and his people would of course wanted a rematch anyway but the waiting game can do funny things in this sport as we have all seen....EG Williams migt have taken a stay busy fight before anything was etched in stone and Quintana and his people could jump on a unifaction bout...IMO the winner of Cintron/Margarito reguardless of who it is would jump at it...Tine is a funny thing in this sport and crazy things happen when there is a gap of it

Usually I am against such things and IMO the champion deserves a rematch but IMO Williams has not acted like a champion....He played champion talking and bragging...nothing more nothing less....

I want to propose a Saddo meetup at the Sun if this card comes to fruition. We can all meet at the red Corvette or something like that.
