Barrera wants to put up local gym - Yahoo! Philippines News
Shooting commercials will not be the only thing in Marco Antonio Barrera's mind when he visits the Philippines soon.
The former world champion from Mexico, an insider said, also wants to put up a boxing gym in the country.
"He wants to put up a gym here. He's just looking for a partner to manage the place," said Jeff de Guzman, who's been doing representations for Barrera.
"By putting up the gym, he said he wants to be of help to boxing in our country," added De Guzman in an e-mail. He said he was with Barrera Saturday during the Oscar dela Hoya-Steve Forbes match.
Barrera, who fought Manny Pacquiao in two classic fights, but lost both, should be in the Philippines in June or July to shoot different commercials.
De Guzman said there's an offer for Barrera to endorse a beer brand.
Erik Morales starred in a San Miguel Beer commercial with Pacquiao last year.
Feelers have also been sent to Barrera to endorse a local milk brand.
David Diaz, who stakes his WBC lightweight crown against Pacquiao on June 28 in Las Vegas, may also be included in the commercial, according to De Guzman.
Juan Manuel Marquez, another great Mexican fighter who lost to Pacquiao last April 15, was in Manila last month to seek a third fight with the Filipino superstar.
Initially, there were also offers for Marquez to shoot commercials here, but nothing concrete came out. - Abac Cordero/Philstar
