    Default Calzaghe best P4P ??

Just been looking at the recent poles and Joe Calzaghe is listed as the number 1 pound for pound fighter out there at the moment after his win over Hopkins, I would rate him in the top 5 but his performance against Hopkins was far from exciting, Mayweather is a 5 weight world champ surely he is still the deserved Number 1 P4P. Calzaghe is a great talent but most of his career has been spent fighting limited opponents, even if he beat RJJ does beating 2 has beens qualify him as the best, I don't think so.

if hopkins is a has been it doesnt say much for boxing because he is without doubt a top 5 P4P fighter..

So give calzaghe the credit he deserves...

And calzaghe is not p4p no.1 but he is definatly top 3

Unless it's a poll held exclusively in Wales, there's no way Calzaghe is being rated no.1 p4p. Do you have a link?? Or were you talking about polls on this forum or something I'd still put Pacquiao and Marquez above Calzaghe anyways... He is definetly top 5 though.

I'd have Mayweather at number 1 still, with Calzaghe in second .If he ko'ed Hopkins he may have had a case for been 1st but its second at the moment but if he fights Jones and then Pavlik and wins in good style depending on how PBF does it would be hard to chose between them to for top spot.

Don't get me wrong Calzaghe is undefeated and the credit is there, but Warren has ruined his career forcing him to fight a string of limited opponents, he could have done a lot more with the talent that he has.

And for the one who said Hopkins is in top 5 p4p your crazy, he barely had 6 rounds in him against Calzaghe, he looked stronger but all he wanted to do was hold and fake, Bernard has been one of the best fighters of this era but I am sorry my friend he is finished, unless he want to beat up Welterweight Felix Trinidad as well to prove he is still up there.

That's from boxrec, their statistics calculation is no replacement for reality.
Stick with the ring. I still have Mayweather and PAC ahead of Calzaghe, but there isn't much of an argument of putting Calzaghe ahead of Cotto aside from longevity, if Cotto keeps beating the level of competition he's been demolishing (save Gomez) he will surely pass Calzaghe in 2009.

I think if Joe was to defeat Pavlik and Jones Jr he would have a good claim at the top spot, but not now.

By the time he does that Mayweather vs. Cotto should happen emphasis on should and the winner of that fight is p4p number 1. IF PAC, Cotto and PBF lose, AND Calzaghe beats Jones and Pavlik he can make a definate argument for it.

Good post. Welcome and have some rep. Can't disagree with anything you've said there. You feel about Calzaghe as I do. He is the real deal but he's left it too late to ever become number 1 p4p.
Also agree with the person who said the guys at number 1,2 and 3 will ALL need to have some seriously bad results in the near future for Calzaghe to surpass them.

I'd rate Calzaghe #3 but certainly no lower than 4th
